FOUNTAIN VALLEY, CA -- (JUNE 23, 1992) -- NewGen Systems Corporation today
announced two new additions to the Task Pro Series of RISC-based, true
high-resolution laser printers. The new TurboPS/660 with 600 x 600 dpi
comes standard with NewGen's own Image Enhancement Technology (IET) Level
II and Automatic Recognition Technology (ART). The TurboPS/630En with 600
x 600 dpi, created for shared printing environments, includes an Ethernet
interface, with multiple protocols on one card, all simultaneously
active.

"With the addition of these two, low cost models, NewGen has rounded out
its eight page per minute line of printers. We are giving the user various
printing options at different price points," said Scott McClure, Product
Manager. "Users interested in enhanced grey scale output or the ability to
run a multi-featured, laser printer within an Ethernet environment at an
affordable price will buy a Task Pro Series printer."

The Task Pro Series, with the new TurboPS/660 and TurboPS630En, is designed
to meet the growing user demand for increased price/performance PostScript
laser products. NewGen proprietary innovations such as ART, IET & IET
Level II, IC Memory cards and Program Updating are key features
differentiating the Pro Series from other PostScript laser printers. In
addition, NewGen is the only laser printer manufacturer to offer Ethernet
with multiple, active protocols such as

EtherTalk, TCP/IP and Novell operating simultaneously on one card. No other
printer in its price class offers a wider selection of leading edge
features.

"The new 660 and 630En printers are perfect for general business and
graphics intensive environments that require heavy printer usage," added
Scott McClure. "With the Task Series printers we are offering our
customers power-packed printers capable of handling high demand tasks in
networking situations, all at an affordable price."

TURBOPS/660 AND TURBOPS/630En PRINTER FEATURES

High Resolution - The TurboPS/660 has a standard resolution of 600 x 600
plus IET Level II and the Canon SX engine to achieve superior output. IET
enhances print quality by improving gray scale, smoothing characters, and
sharpening curves and corners to eliminate jagged lines. NewGen's High
Resolution and High Density toner cartridges further improve print
quality. The TurboPS/630En delivers 600 x 300 resolution, twice the
resolution of standard 300 dpi laser printers.

Shared Printer - Simultaneous active interfaces and an ethernet card
standard on the 630En (Optional on the 660 and 630) make the Task Pro
Series truly a shared resource for PC, Macintosh and Unix workstation
users. ART provides interface switching between Centronics parallel,
RS-232 serial, AppleTalk and Ethernet when installed. Standard interfaces
include parallel, serial, Appletalk and SCSI. NewGen's Ethernet is
compatible with TCP/IP, EtherTalk, and Novell protocols, and is
simultaneously active with NewGen's NetWork ART which automatically
switches between network protocols without operator intervention. Each
printer comes with software to offload the network file server and save
the cost of purchasing a server computer system.

RISC Processing and Memory - Based on the high performance Weitek XL8220
25MHz RISC processor, the Task Pro Series printers provide the right
computing power for high-resolution printing. One of the first vendors to
provide RISC architecture in a printer, NewGen continues to emphasize
faster time-to-first print. Double buffering also improves printing speeds
15 to 20 percent. Standard memory configurations are 6MB for both the
TurboPS/630En and TurboPS/660. Both letter and legal sizes can easily be
handled without adding extra memory. When more memory is required it is
easy to add with proprietary SIMM modules up to a maximum of 32MB.

PostScript Compatible - The Task Pro Series feature Genoa tested
Adobe-compatible PostScript, HP PCL LaserJet Series II and HPGL as
standard emulations. ART intelligently selects which emulation is required
without operator intervention. Due to Program Updating, other emulations
such as Epson LQ-800 and Diablo can easily be added as well as PostScript
Level II, providing total compatibility to todays software applications
and future applications.

The Task Pro Series include 35 Apple LaserWriter-compatible fonts, the
standard set of HP LaserJet II and HPGL fonts. Compatibility extends to
all Adobe Type 1 and 3 fonts, TrueType fonts, Casady & Greene fonts, The
Font Company fonts, Altsys fonts, Kingsley/ATF Type fonts, Emigre fonts
and many others.

Program Updating - Offering future printer options such as new
communication software, emulations and new levels of PostScript are
uniquely added through Program Updating. Within five minutes an end user
can download, via NewGen's update utility new printer software features.
This eliminates ROM or other hardware replacement.

MARKET AND APPLICATIONS

The Task Pro Series is targeted at the price and print-quality sensitive
single, network and workgroup user. Due to IET, ART, RISC processing and
the base resolution of the Task Pro Series, the user market extends beyond
the average desktop publisher. Anyone looking for the best in gray scale
imaging as well as crisp line art should look at the new TurboPS/660.
Users interested in affordable networking, but also requiring high
resolution output should purchase the TurboPS/630En. Users requiring lower
price and faster printing compared to standard 300 dpi printers should buy
the TurboPS/630. For those requiring camera ready output, the Premier Pro
TurboPS/880 with IET Level II plus Ethernet and the TurboPS840e, offer
outstanding value and exceptional resolution.
