NEW YORK, June 22, 1992--Tektronix is exhibiting the second generation of
its Phaser III PXi plain-paper color printer in Booth #3960 at PC Expo,
June 22-24.

The Phaser III PXi, which uses phase change ink-jet technology and supports
Adobe Systems' PostScript Level 2 software, now includes Tektronix'
proprietary TekColor Finepoint technology, giving it the ability to
produce prints with extremely fine detail. This level of fine detail is
surpassed only by continuous tone printers, which require special and more
costly media.

The award-winning Phaser III PXi, with a suggested retail price of $9,995,
has captured 50 percent of the market for tabloid-sized color PostScript
language printers since it began shipping in August 1991. Demand for the
printer has been so strong that Tektronix doubled its manufacturing
capacity earlier this year.

"The Phaser III PXi has been one of the most successful color printers ever
introduced," said A. J. Rogers, Tektronix strategic marketing manager. "We
expect the new capabilities will make it even more popular with users who
need to produce high-quality output on any kind of paper."

Tektronix' Finepoint technology, which was jointly developed with Adobe
Systems, is the newest member of its suite of TekColor technologies.
Tektronix' licensing agreement with Adobe allowed it to add Finepoint
rendering to the PostScript Level 2 software halftone algorithms supported
in the Phaser III PXi.

Other aspects of TekColor enable users to match their printer output to a
commercial printing press. The new built-in TekColor PS color adjustments
include a SWOP (Specifications Web Offset Publications) process color
simulation option that modifies the Phaser III PXi color gamut to more
closely approximate printing press colors. SWOP color simulation is
required in graphic arts and prepress applications.

TekColor provides improved color matching between the user's screen and the
color output form the Phaser III PXi. The TekColor Previewer, also built
into the Apple Macintosh and Microsoft Windows drivers provided by
Tektronix, gives users the ability to preview their output before it goes
to the printer.

Phaser III PXi owners can upgrade to these new capabilities for $295.
Phaser III PXi customers with a Tektronix on-site maintenance agreement
will receive the upgrade free.

In June, Tektronix begins shipping new color ink sticks for use with the
Phaser III PXi. The new inks have been reformulated to adhere to an even
broader range of media and produce more durable prints. The new inks
resist scratching and will not crack when folded.

For those producing overhead transparencies, Tektronix has introduced a
media laminator that enhances the color quality and durability of prints
made on transparencies. The laminator can also be used with Phaser III PXi
paper output and output from Tektronix thermal wax printers. The suggested
retail price for the media laminator is $995.

A paper tray capable of handling 12 by 18-inch media will also be available
in July 1992.
