Microway Announces NDP Fortran, C/C++ and Pascal for OS/2 2.0

June 21, 1992 - Kingston, MA - Microway announces the release of three
compilers for OS/2 2.0: NDP Fortran, NDP C/C++, and NDP Pascal. These
products take advantage of the advanced features of the Intel 386
architecture along with OS/2's ability to load and run 32-bit applications
on the 386SX, 386, and 486. All three products have been available on DOS
Extenders since 1987 and are used by thousands of programmers worldwide to
port 32-bit mainframe applications to the 386, 486, and i860. In addition,
they frequently are bundled with scientific and engineering applications,
making it possible to now run these packages on OS/2 along with mainframe
libraries like NAG and IMSL.

Microway is promoting the use of OS/2 over other 32-bit operating systems.
"We have discovered that OS/2 solves a number of problems encountered
running large applications on DOS-based extenders and removes the need for
third party DOS Extenders," said Stephen Fried, President of Microway.
These include slow I/O speeds, the requirement that numeric applications
frequently yield to avoid UAEs, and a 16 megabyte cap on DPMI application
size. OS/2 provides full access to 4 gigabytes of virtual address space,
supports high speed multi-threaded I/O devices, and provides an excellent
high end environment for developing 32-bit "windowing" applications.

NDP Fortran was the first 32-bit Fortran on the 386 market and is the
industry leader in code generation quality. In addition to the standard
global optimizations performed by a number of C compilers, it adds
optimizations not found in these products which improve numeric intensive
applications. These include support for all coprocessors that can run in a
386/486 system, including the Weitek 3167/4167, the Intel i860, plus
special optimizations for the Intel 387/487 that relate to storage
allocation and inline execution of intrinsic functions. Validation codes
for NDP Fortran include the Dept. of Commerce Test Suite and the NAG and
IMSL libraries, both of which are also available for OS/2 from Microway.
NDP Fortran is a full F77 with VMS, VS, and MS extensions. NDP Fortran is
100% compatible with the IBM C SET compiler and Toolkit. It is currently
shipping.

NDP C/C++ is a full AT&T 2.1 compliant C++ compiler that has been on the
DOS market for over a year. It is a true compiler that also translates the
ANSI and K&R dialects of C as validated by Plum Hall. In addition to
making it possible to build mixed applications which call Fortran or
Pascal from C or C++, this product provides numeric optimizations not
usually found in C compilers, such as loop unrolling and register caching.
Running on OS/2, C/C++ can directly call the OS/2 32-bit API using
conventions identical to those used by IBM C SET. Like all NDP
translators, C/C++ includes a built-in intelligent assembler. Validation
suites for C/C++ include Plum Hall, C Front, and Rogue Wave. The product
will ship on August 15, 1992.

NDP Pascal is an ANSI/IEEE compliant Pascal that also passes BSI Level 0
and can access most of our C runtime functions. It is currently shipping.

OS/2 for Microway's Number Smasher-860 is currently shipping for Fortran,
C/C++, and Pascal.

The list price on these translators is $595. We will be running a
"Pre-Release" special for $295 until August 30, 1992. Interested parties
should contact Microway's Technical Support Department at (508) 746-7341.

Microway specializes in compilers, accelerators and parallel processing
hardware and software for 386, 486, and i860-based microcomputers. Sales
offices are located in the U.S., Europe, Poland, and the Far East.
