Palo Alto, CA, May 18, 1992 -- Micro Focus brings a true MVS application
development environment to OS/2 and DOS PCs with the release of Micro
Focus AD/MVS.

Micro Focus AD/MVS is designed for companies that want to take advantage of
the benefits of PC-based application development -- increased programmer
productivity, reduced mainframe access charges, faster program turn around
-- while maintaining current investments in MVS applications.

Micro Focus AD/MVS closely reflects the IBM mainframe MVS environment on a
PC, providing an application development environment under DOS and OS/2
that has the look and feel of TSO/ISPF. The AD/MVS panels allow all the
MVS functions performed by programmers on a daily basis to be performed on
the workstation. Developers can browse, edit, allocate files and datasets,
compile and interactively test programs, and execute MVS JCL, PROCs, and
utilities.

Micro Focus AD/MVS is easy to install and can be customized to represent a
company's MVS ISPF/PDF screens. The Micro Focus COBOL compiler and
Advanced ANIMATOR (Micro Focus' visual source code debugger) are
pre-configured with the directives necessary to provide the highest level
of compatibility with IBM OS/VS COBOL and IBM VS COBOL II. The unique
combination of familiar screens, IBM mainframe COBOL compatibility and
superior debugging facilities with the high availability and consistent
response times of the workstation enable MVS programmers to develop higher
quality applications, faster, without costly retraining.

Files are managed under AD/MVS using MVS dataset names, reconciling the
relationship between MVS dataset names referenced in the JCL and ISPF
panels with the physical workstation files. A range of file types are
supported including: Physical sequential, partitioned, VSAM KSDS and
generation data groups.

The JCL execution manager provides a complete unit testing facility under
OS/2 and DOS by implementing execution emulation for MVS JCL jobstreams
and cataloged procedures, dynamic dataset allocation, and catalog
management. JCL can be downloaded from the host and executed on the PC.

Micro Focus AD/MVS can be integrated with Micro Focus IMS, CICS, 370
Assembler Option, IBM Database Manager and two new products announced
today by Micro Focus - the XDB Option for Micro Focus COBOL Workbench,
jointly announced by Micro Focus and XDB Systems Inc., and the Micro Focus
Host Compatibility Option for IBM Database Manager. Micro Focus AD/MVS is
currently available directly from Micro Focus.

Micro Focus is the leading developer of COBOL compilers and programmer
productivity tools for business application development. Micro Focus
products are available on micro, mini and mainframe computer systems and
support many standard and proprietary operating systems. The company
developed the first National Bureau of Standards-certified ANSI'85 COBOL
compiler. Micro Focus COBOL also conforms to the IBM Systems Applications
Architecture (SAA) standard, the X/Open standard, and is FIPS PUB 21-2
compliant. Micro Focus is a member of the IBM International Alliance for
AD/Cycle.
