NEW YORK, NY (PC Expo, Booth #308) - June 23, 1992 - Microcom, Inc., a
leading developer of internetworking solutions, today announced the
release of the Microcom Bridge/ Router Release 6.0 (MBR 6.0), a
high-performance, multi-protocol bridge router. MBR 6.0 offers users an
easy-to-install and easy-to-configure method for connecting Token Ring and
Ethernet LANs via popular WAN systems including Frame Relay, X.25 and
leased lines.

"New technologies such as Frame Relay offer the means to move more data
among many locations in a more cost-effective manner," said Stephen Mank,
Microcom's Vice President of Marketing. "Internetworking multiple
protocols and locations can be complicated and time-consuming, a process
that is greatly simplified by MBR 6.0's plug-and-play design."

Two models of MBR 6.0 are available in either a fully configured platform
including a 386 PC AT or as a "soft-bridge" consisting of LAN and WAN
interfaces and software, which users install in their own PC AT.

. MBR/6000 interconnects Token Ring or Ethernet LANs and supports
connections to leased line WANs with speeds up to 2 Mbps. As a local
bridge/router the MBR/ 6000 links one LAN with up to four WANs or two LANs
with up to two WANs.

The MBR/6000 also supports V.25bis remote dialing, which can save money by
providing bandwidth on demand without the need for leasing lines. Users
can call-up a connection to a remote LAN site and access the applications
on that network, then terminate the connection when it is no longer
needed.

. MBR/6500 has four ports supporting up to fifteen virtual circuits each.
In a maximum configuration the MBR/ 6500 can support a total of 60 virtual
connections to Frame Relay and X.25 networks. The MBR/ 6500 supports
analog link speeds to 19.2 Kbps and digital links to 56/64 Kbps.

Both MBR 6.0 models support mixed technology LANs where combinations of
Ethernet and Token Ring LAN interface cards reside in the same MBR. These
units support remote routing and local and remote bridging using multiple
protocols, including;

IP -- In Ethernet and Token Ring routing environments, the MBR 6.0 uses the
industry standard IP protocol to flexibly integrate local networks via
X.25, Frame Relay and leased line WANs.

IPX -- In Novell NetWare networks, the MBR uses IPX routing to provide
reliable communication between Token Ring and/ or Ethernet LANs.

SRT -- On Token Ring LANs, Source Routing Transparent (SRT) enables
simultaneous source routing of IBM protocols while transparently bridging
non-IBM protocols.

Users who need a combination of local or remote bridging and routing, can
configure the MBR to support many different configurations. For example,
the MBR can function solely as a transparent bridge, or simultaneously as
a bridge, IPX router and IP router. When two MBR 6.0s are connected their
advanced data compression can provide throughput up to 400% greater than
normal line capacity.

Microcom will begin shipping the MBR 6.0 to authorized distributors in June
1992. The list prices for the soft-bridge version of the MBR/ 6000 and
MBR/ 6500 range from $3,999 to $6,499, depending on the configuration. The
fully integrated turnkey systems are available for an additional $1,500.
