Cupertino, CA -- June 23, 1992 -- The Floptical Technology Association
today announced that Ingram Micro Inc., Santa Ana, CA has joined the
growing number of Floptical technology supporters. Ingram Micro has added
to their lines Floptical subsystems for IBM PCs and Apple Macintosh
systems from Mass Micro, Inc. and PLI (Peripheral Land, Inc.).

Ingram Micro, the world's largest wholesale distributor of microcomputer
products, will supply the 3.5-inch 21-megabyte (MB) Floptical subsystems
and media to over 60,000 reseller customers in 65 countries.

Vicky Cotten, general manager of Ingram Micro's Mass Storage Division,
said, "The industry-wide acceptance of the Floptical technology standard
assures end users of an interchangeable, affordable, very high capacity
storage medium that is now readily available worldwide on a commercial
basis. With Ingram Micro's ability to deliver this product in volume, end
users can now easily make the transition from low capacity floppy disks to
very high capacity Floptical products."

A spokesman for the Floptical Technology Association said, "Securing the
support of a major international distributor like Ingram Micro not only
gives Floptical technology another credibility boost with the computer
industry and end users alike, but also sends a message to resellers that
there is an large and immediate demand for downward compatible, very high
capacity storage systems, and that Floptical technology satisfies that
demand."

The 3.5-inch 21MB Floptical disk drive is seen as a superior solution for
need for low cost, removable, very high-capacity data storage by the vast
majority of systems users. The Floptical drive's read/write compatibility
with standard capacity 720KB and 1.44MB diskettes, plus the clear
migration path to significantly higher capacities assures this new
technology's place as an affordable mass storage alternative.

The Floptical Technology Association is comprised of drive manufacturers
Insite Peripherals and Iomega Corp.; media manufacturers Maxell and 3M;
and Insite's drive manufacturing partner MKE; along with host adapter
companies Adaptec, Future Domain and Rancho Technology. The Floptical
Technology Association is located at 22710 Stevens Creek Blvd., Suite 220,
Cupertino, CA 95014. Telephone: 408/446 0407; fax: 408/446 0450.

OTHER FLOPTICAL TECHNOLOGY SUPPORTERS

Announced support of the Floptical technology standard includes Commodore,
Westchester, PA; Arrow Electronics, Melville, NY; Digital Micronics, Inc.,
Carlsbad, Calif.; GrassRoots, Inc., Lenexa, Kansas; Liberty Systems, Santa
Clara, Calif.; PLI (Peripheral Land, Inc.), Fremont, Calif.; Procom
Technology, Costa Mesa, Calif.; MASS Microsystems, Sunnyvale, CA and JACO
Electronics, Hauppauge, New York. All market to the IBM PC, Amiga and/or
Macintosh markets.

The Micro Standards Committee of the Microcomputer Manager's Association
(MMA), has nominated the Floptical disk drive as the industry standard for
very high capacity (VHC) floppy disk drives. The recommendation came in a
white paper based on a competitive evaluation among available high
capacity drives.

FLOPTICAL TECHNOLOGY BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Products based on Floptical technology include disk drives, media, host
adapter and subsystem products. The 3.5-inch Floptical disk drive features
21MB of formatted capacity (25MB unformatted), one inch high form factor
and single +5 volt power requirements. The Floptical disk drive uses
standard 3.5-inch diskettes and variable mode dual heads which make it the
first and only very high capacity 3.5-inch flexible drive able to read and
write standard lower capacity 720KB and 1.44MB 3.5-inch diskettes. The
Floptical's very high capacity is achieved by combining patented optical
servo track positioning and magnetic recording technologies.
