For a rollicking, campy look at the 1950's it's AMAZON From Access Software
Inc.

Overview

Access Software designers, Chris Jones and Doug Vandegrift, have recaptured
the fun of drive-in movies of the '50's with their latest full motion
video knockout, AMAZON. "If you try to visualize all of the 'B' jungle
movies of the '50's distilled into one great experience you have AMAZON",
says Jones. Amazon, subtitled The Guardians of Eden, is an action packed
parody with turns and twists throughout the adventure.

Last year Access Software won the coveted Software Publishers Award for
MARTIAN MEMORANDUM, their last interactive fiction effort. "AMAZON is at
least a 50% improvement in playability, fun and good times over Martian
Memorandum", according to designer Vandegrift. The user interface has had
several changes that were suggested by Access' loyal customer following.

Serials

Amazon is divided into 14 Chapters, each one ending in great suspense.
Cliff hangers have been ignored by Hollywood for many years, but now you
and your family can relive those astounding good times with AMAZON. AMAZON
is designed to capture the fun of a bygone era - the '50's. Virtually all
props used in the story came from second hand shops, basements and attics,
so the period is preserved.

The Story

A brief synopses of AMAZON goes like this: you are Jason Roberts, living
somewhere in the United States. Your brother is working with a scientific
expedition deep in the Amazon. Word comes that your brother is missing,
along with the entire expedition.

His boss contacts you - A mysterious package arrives in your mail box-
there is a hint of a major scientific find mixed (for good measure) with a
"super natural feel." The adventure takes you to unexplored regions of the
AMAZON and teams you up with the mysterious beauty Maya. You must fend off
TEN FOOT ants and find emeralds stolen by Cortez! And that's only for
openers!! In order to successfully conclude this "movie experience" you
must not only fully understand Jason but Maya as well.

Hints

On line hints have been expanded in AMAZON. There are now three user
selectable levels of hints. If you're an expert, don't use hints at all. A
warning: If hints are used too much, the ending will change!

The Medium

AMAZON is VGA but has a SUPER VGA option that lets the user feel that they
are involved in a real life movie adventure. Cinematic effects are carried
to new heights with multiple digitized characters on screen, multiple
camera angles, FLASHBACKS, in-cut action scenes, zooms, wipes, pans and
fades hint at the level of expertise that went into this production. There
is much more sound in AMAZON than in any other Access product. A full
score is used throughout the AMAZON experience to set the mood and tone
for each chapter. Full digitized voices and sound effects actually carry
you to the thick jungles of the AMAZON. With such high production values,
you become part of the story; characters seem to actually come to life. If
you met any of these characters in real life, you would swear you knew
them!

For several years Access has tried to give their products a true "cinema
graphic feel". Each interactive fiction product release gets better and
better. With the state of video, audio and computer technology mastered by
Access technical people, AMAZON has achieved that elusive goal.

Epilogue

AMAZON will be available August 31st for MS-DOS based machines and will
ship in either 3 1/2 or 5 1/4 disk formats. A CD-ROM version (longer and
more in depth) is expected to be available before the end of the year.

When finished, the user will have gained an understanding of the intricate
balance of nature in the AMAZON. In an effort to support environmental
efforts AMAZON will be packaged in boxes made of recycled materials.
