Acer Supports SCO Open-Desktop Release 2.0

June 23, 1992 -- Leveraging its long-standing technology relationship with
SCO, The Acer Group plans to offer a broad range of solutions based on SCO
Open Desktop Release 2.0, designed to address the computing requirements
of corporate customers. SCO ODT 2.0, which recently began shipping, is
SCO's advanced, integrated operating environment for industry-standard
386- and 486-based workstations and servers. The Acer Group will support
ODT 2.0 on both its Altos line of highly integrated systems and Acer line
of PC hardware platforms.

"Increasingly, we are delivering open systems solutions to corporate
customers who previously relied on proprietary workstations and mid-range
servers. To be effective, these multiuser and client/server solutions must
utilize a robust operating environment," said Ronald Chwang, president and
COO of Acer America Corporation, a subsidiary of The Acer Group. "ODT 2.0
is highly effective for the high-end requirements of our corporate
customers, offering an advanced graphical user interface, networking and
DOS services in a unified open systems environment."

Together with ODT 2.0, The Acer Group is positioned to provide a unique
range of solutions and benefits to users moving to an open systems
environment. They include:

o Cost Effective, Upgradable Servers and Desktop Systems -- With computing
solutions from The Acer Group, users have a range of upgrade options
designed to extend the functional life of their systems -- from highly
cost-effective desktop systems running demanding 32-bit applications to
servers for workgroup, departmental or corporate environments.

The company's unique ChipUp, single-chip CPU upgrade technology
automatically adjusts the system speed to match that of a new,
higher-speed CPU, which users can easily insert themselves. With computers
using ChipUp, all that is required is a standard Intel CPU or an Intel
OverDrive processor, which further increases performance by doubling the
CPU's internal clock speed.

Additionally, modular upgrade solutions on some computers from The Acer
Group give users a framework for growth without compromising performance.
Modular upgrade boards include the CPU (up to 50MHz), cache and up to
128MB of on-board memory.

o Fully Scalable Multiprocessing Systems -- Multiprocessor systems from
The Acer Group unite the advantages of affordable, Intel CPU-based
platforms with the full symmetric processing capabilities of proprietary
minicomputer systems. A key feature of true symmetric multiprocessing is
the ability to distribute I/O interrupts across all available CPUs,
eliminating I/O bottlenecks. With ODT 2.0 these multiprocessor systems
provide an effective platform for either traditional, multiuser
environments or client/server computing.

o Full Vendor Support -- As one of only a handful of vendors in the world
to license and enhance SCO source code, The Acer Group is well positioned
to deliver solutions integrating enhanced hardware and software, together
with an engineering and support staff highly experienced in UNIX systems
and related technology, including ODT 2.0 and SCO UNIX.

Acer and Altos systems running ODT 2.0 will be announced by The Acer Group
in Q3 1992.
