NEW YORK, June 23, 1992 -- The next generation hand-held electronic
organizer has been introduced by Sharp Electronics Corporation, in Japan.
The new OZ-9600 Wizard combines touch-screen pen input technology, a
totally new, advanced graphical user interface for ease-of-use and a
variety of personal productivity applications. It will be introduced later
this year in the U.S.

A steady stream of technological advances and market leadership has placed
Sharp at the forefront of the electronic organizer product category. In
1969, ELSI (Extra Large Scale Integration) technology was debuted, and in
1973, the world's first calculator with a liquid crystal display. These
advances made the electronic calculator market a reality.

By adding memory capacity and software to its programmable calculator
technology, the Memo Master (i.e., data bank) category was established in
1987. In 1988, the more sophisticated Wizard electronic organizer product
line was launched. By combining a variety of personal productivity
functions with Sharp's LCD and touch panel technology, a significant new
category of consumer electronics -- electronic organizers -- emerged.
Since that time, it has been dominated by Sharp.

Responding to consumer research, the product line was expanded, with
features, memory and display enhanced over the next three years. This
market-driven approach led the Wizard electronic organizer line to a 60%
share of the U.S. market and a 70% share in Japan.

"Sharp delivers powerful, usable technology that meets the demands of the
consumer and corporate markets today, and will continue to do so as new
opportunities and applications arise," says Paul Allan, vice president,
Sharp Wizard Division. "The new OZ-9600 integrates the best of today's
advanced technologies, including a touch screen, pen operation, electronic
note capability, multitasking and wireless communications. In addition to
being key components of the OZ-9600, these technologies equip Sharp to be
a major force in the creation of the next generation of personal
information tools."

The OZ-9600 utilizes the same technology as the PV-F1, an advanced
organizer from Sharp which was introduced to the Japanese market last week
in Tokyo.

Product Features

The OZ-9600 features a large 320 by 240 pixel resolution touch-screen (up
to 53 characters by 30 lines) and a spacious typewriter-style QWERTY
keyboard (roughly 75% size of a standard keyboard) to allow information to
be conveniently and quickly entered into the unit's 256KB memory. Data
from the internal memory can be retrieved by simply touching the display
with the pen input stylus or a finger.

Personal productivity applications include a calendar, schedule, user file,
anniversary function, To Do list, three telephone directories, business
card directory, word processor, outline processor, scrapbook, calculator,
home and world clocks and a secret function.

The unit's graphical user interface, designed specifically for the OZ-9600,
includes icon buttons, screen-based icons, pull-down menus and copy and
paste capabilities.

"People work with handwritten notes and pieces of information, not computer
files," notes Allan. "The operating system and user interface of the
OZ-9600 is designed to quickly and efficiently access such pieces of
information."

An electronic scrapbook function enables hand-drawn letters or graphics to
be entered and saved by simply writing "electronic ink" on the screen with
the Wizard pen. These electronic versions of handy reminder notes can then
be reduced in a window for transposing or be stored as discrete entries.

Wireless communications will allow data on the Wizard screen or complete
files to be bi-directionally transferred between Wizard OZ-9000-series
units. Business cards, for example, could be exchanged via this wireless
link.

Optional wireless or direct cable adapters allow Wizard information to be
printed on a standard PC printer, or transferred to a PC or Macintosh
computer using Organizer Link software. When coupled with a Sharp Wizard
modem accessory (model #CE-350X), the OZ-9600 can communicate with remote
mainframes and personal computers using built-in terminal mode software
that provides both ASCII TTY and VT-100 emulation.

In terminal mode, the unit can receive electronic mail over most E-mail
systems, including AT&T Easy Link, CompuServe and MCI Mail. Compatibility
with other E-mail service providers is being tested.

A powerful To Do function allows advanced project management to be
integrated with the user's schedule. Items to do are recorded with a
description, priority, deadline date and up to five additional categories,
and displayed in the Wizard's calendar views. Completed items are marked
with a single keystroke, while unfinished items are carried over to the
following day. Items can also be sorted by date or priority and filtered
by category for flexible and instant access to information.

The user file function offers three directories containing 16
user-definable data fields. User file directories can be customized for a
variety of purposes, such as a restaurant guide, contact manager or even
inventory listings.

For added data security, a RAM card backup function backs up all of the
information on the OZ-9600 to a 256K RAM card in about five seconds. The
OZ-9600 can be expanded through IC card-based Wizard application and
memory software cards available from Sharp, third-party software vendors
and value-added resellers (VARs).

Sharp Electronics Corporation expects to ship the OZ-9600 by the end of
1992. Pricing will be announced at that time.
