HAYES ANNOUNCES SMARTCOM FOR WINDOWS
Debuts at PC Expo in New York, 23-26 June 1992

ATLANTA, GA, 10 June 1992 -- Hayes Microcomputer Products, Inc. today
announced Smartcom for Windows, a full-featured asynchronous
communications software package for Microsoft Windows Versions 3.0 and
3.1. Smartcom for Windows provides the easy to use and learn graphical
user interface that users expect from a Windows application, without
compromising functionality and performance. Available in five languages,
this software is designed for today's advanced communications environments
of high-speed modems, ISDN, Hayes ESP, local area networking, and support
of TCP/IP internetworking.

While Smartcom for Windows supports all popular modems for personal
computers, Hayes customers automatically receive the full benefit of the
special features and throughput performance offered by Hayes
communications products, such as Hayes OPTIMA 144 and Hayes ISDN System
Adapter. Smartcom for Windows comes with a special asynchronous Windows
driver that extends the capabilities of the standard Windows
communications driver and, through the support of the Enhanced Serial
Interface (ESI), takes advantage of the speed and data protection
capabilities of Hayes ESP. Hayes ESP is a dual-port communications
coprocessor for PCs that off-loads the system's responsibility of managing
the high-speed flow of data for external serial devices.

In addition to supporting multiple protocols for file transfers and
advanced terminal emulations, users can also create custom buttons and
keyboard macros, as well as configure keyboard layouts to map to a
particular system application. Smartcom for Windows has a unique and
powerful editor that not only provides most of the features found in word
processing software, such as Delete, Move, Copy, Center, Reformat, Undo,
Find and Replace, but integrates graphic images into communications. The
Smartcom Communications Editor combines ANSI.SYS functionality with a
full-featured text editor to use color and ANSI graphic characters in
users' messages.

"Smartcom for Windows is not just a utility program for PC communications.
It is a powerful platform for creating applications and supporting systems
integration," said Hayes President Dennis C. Hayes. "In today's high-speed
communications environments, Smartcom for Windows offers the fastest
possible communications in the Windows environment and frees the user or
systems integrator from tracking the rapidly changing transmission
technology."

With SCOPE (Simple Communications Programming Environment), a feature also
found in Smartcom Exec and Smartcom III, users can automate repetitive
tasks such as logging-in or processing and transferring files, creating
menu-driven interaction with remote systems, triggering events according
to the time of day, keyboard input or remote system responses. Scripts
written with SCOPE in Smartcom Exec and Smartcom III will run in Smartcom
for Windows. In addition, customers with Smartcom for Windows can
participate in Hayes SCOPE Contest which awards the Smartcom user with the
best script $4,000 and an expense-paid trip for four to a Disney theme
park.

Smartcom for Windows Version 1.0 will be available in Fall 1992 for US$179,
CDN$249, UK$119 and HK$179. Smartcom for Windows includes language files
for French, German, Italian, Spanish and English; Smartcom Communications
Editor; Smartcom Custom; Hayes ESP driver for Windows Version 3.1; and
user documentation including a Read-me First Guide, User's Guide, Quick
Reference Cards in five languages, and Technical Reference Guides in
English.

Customers of Smartcom EZ can switch to Smartcom for Windows for US$75 and
CDN$95, and customers of Smartcom Exec or Smartcom III can switch to
Smartcom for Windows for US$50 and CDN$65 through Hayes Customer Service.
Customers with any DOS or Windows communications software program can also
switch to Smartcom for Windows for US$80 and CDN$ 100. Hayes Multi-Copy
Software Licensing Program enables businesses as well as government,
financial and educational institutions to make 10, 100, 500, or 1000
authorized copies of Smartcom for Windows for use at any user location,
not just at one site. Those customers who are interested in a Site License
should contact Hayes Customer Service.
