San Diego, Calif., June 1, 1992 -- Proxima Corporation today announced a
family of LCD projection panels called ColorWorks that includes the first
LCD projection panel capable of projecting high-quality color images for
under $4,000. This price-performance breakthrough is expected to make
ColorWorks, shipment of which begins June 17, the most popular line of LCD
projection panels on the market.

"Ever since color projection systems were first introduced, potential users
have been asking for true color at an affordable price," said Paul Eichen,
president of Proxima. "ColorWorks was designed with this largest segment
of the projection market in mind. It's an entry-level product for people
who care about image quality but don't have the budget to buy a more
expensive LCD projection panel."

LCD projection panels give presenters, trainers, educators and work groups
the ability to project images from a computer via a standard overhead
projector. Until now, high-quality color systems have cost from $6,000 to
$9,000.

According to Eichen, ColorWorks' dramatic price-performance breakthrough is
achieved through an innovative use of color-stripe technology. "It's the
first projection panel to use color-stripe filters with a passive-array
LCD panel," he explained.

Until ColorWorks, entry-level projection systems attained color by stacking
three passive-array LCD panels on top of each other--one for each of the
primary colors necessary for color projection. Such a configuration is a
bulky solution that results in a limited number of colors, low color
saturation and a poor contrast ratio.

Color-stripe filter technology allows all three color filters to be placed
on one panel. The result: an affordable product that can project up to
24,389 different colors with a contrast ratio of 20:1. "It takes advantage
of some of the same color technology used in active-matrix devices that
are twice the cost," said Eichen.

In addition, ColorWorks contains many of the features of Proxima's
state-of-the-art Ovation family of color projection panels. This means it
is not only the most lightweight product in its class (just six pounds),
but it also offers crisp images, an intuitive user interface and
rear-projection capabilities.

As with all of Proxima's projection systems, ColorWorks is compatible with
the company's unique Cyclops interactive pointer system. Cyclops, which
functions like a cordless mouse, allows presenters to operate software and
control presentations directly from the projected image.

According to Eichen, ColorWorks is ideal for business and technical
presenters, teachers, trainers, consultants and anyone else who doesn't
require video, multimedia or sophisticated animation but who prefers
high-quality color images.

"In other words," said Eichen, "if you're using static images such as
charts, graphics, spreadsheets and text to deliver information--and you
want brilliant, saturated color, ColorWorks is the answer. It's truly a
dynamic medium that even allows you to introduce special effects and
limited animation."

Available in two models, ColorWorks comes with wireless remote control and
all the cabling needed for high-impact VGA and Macintosh II presentations.
The A502C has a 9-inch diagonal panel and retails for only $3,995. The
A522C offers an 1 l-inch diagonal panel, plus presentation utility
software and additional cabling for just $4,995.

Both models are compatible with a broad range of computers, including IBM
PC's and PC compatibles, Apple Macintosh and Apple II.
