NEW YORK, NY (June 23, 1992) -- Microcom, Inc. (NASDAQ Symbol: MNPI)
announced today at PC Expo that it will begin shipping LANlord, an
integrated software system for centralized management of DOS and Windows
client workstations on local area networks. LANlord allows companies to
monitor and manage workstation hardware, software and configuration data,
as well as LAN and workstation activity, in realtime, according to Emerick
Woods, vice president and general manager of Microcom's Client Server
Technologies Group.

The Client Server Technologies Group, which developed LANlord with seed
funding provided by Microcom, was acquired in March, 1992.

LANlord is a LAN resource and support manager that provides comprehensive
systems management capabilities. It enables companies to proactively
manage remote PC workstations and LANs across multiple locations, and
supports a wide range of management applications, which are integrated
into a single product and can be accessed through LANlord's Windows
graphical user interface.

The product's architecture facilitates management of the upper OSI model
layers (Transport Application). It utilizes an OS/2 server to collect and
store LAN and workstation data, and an SNMP-based agent located on each
workstation to filter and transmit information defined in LANlord's 200+
object MIB. Any network Windows workstation can serve as the LANlord
management console, and up to 16 management consoles can access the
LANlord server simultaneously. LANlord's unique command structure allows
users to define logical, as well as physical, management groups and
specify actions to be performed on the group selected.

"LANlord offers significant benefits by integrating LAN management
functionality that currently requires purchase of three or more separate
utility packages and by providing realtime views of network clients," says
Mr. Woods. "While existing products focus primarily on servers or the
physical network, LANlord is the only product that provides network
managers with the tools needed to manage PC assets and support the growing
number of PCs and users on their networks, all at a cost saving over
standalone products. "

LANlord automatically collects, stores and updates network statistics and
alert data, as well as information on hardware, systems and applications
software, and configuration for each managed workstation on the LAN,
through a central database. LANlord Release 1.0 supports Novell NetWare
286/386 networks; future releases are planned to provide support for
additional network operating systems, workstation client types and
interoperability with other network management systems.

"LANlord provides the detailed information network managers need to
identify PC hardware and software, manage corporate PC assets more
effectively, track and analyze performance, usage and trends, reduce user
support costs and improve management reporting," says Woods. "In addition,
its integrated nature and Windows interface provide a LAN management
solution that is significantly easier to learn and use than multiple
standalone utilities."

LANlord supports a variety of LAN management applications, including:

. Realtime Network and Workstation Monitoring, to track
current LAN, hardware, software and configuration status
. Proactive PC Workstation Management, to prevent problems
  before they occur
. Remote User Support, to provide "help desk-type" services
without requiring on-site visits by field technicians
. Security Management, to protect corporate assets and
  insure LAN integrity
. Reporting and Data Export, to assist in asset management
  and resource utilization analysis

In addition to its grouping capabilities, key features in LANlord Release
1.0 include:

. Automatic inventory of hardware, software and
  configuration information
. Alert/exception notification based on user-defined
  thresholds
. Statistical monitoring of network and workstation activity
. Remote viewing and editing of system and Windows files
. Software metering
. Virus detection and repair

A 10-user license of LANlord Release 1.0 retails for $999. Additional
licenses available include 20-user, 50-user, 100-user and 250-user
versions. LANlord is available through authorized distributors and
resellers, and directly through Microcom (1-800-822-8224).
