June 23, 1992, PC EXPO, New York, NY Kodiak Technology announced today its
QuickSet installation and diagnostic software for LAN adapters using SEEQ
Technology Ethernet chipsets. The unique software package is first
available on the new Kodiak-Kombo LAN adapter, an Ethernet adapter
supporting three media types: thin coax (BNC), unshielded-twisted pair
(RJ45) and AUI (DB15).

QuickSet Introduces Genuine "Hands-off" Installation.

Until QuickSet, "software-configurable" adapters have been a disappointment
because they required the installer to resolve I/O and Memory hardware
conflicts, a process involving extensive knowledge and time. An
industry-first, QuickSet guides an Ethernet LAN adapter to an available
hardware configuration without requiring installers to resolve conflicts.

After QuickSet selects an available hardware setting, other board settings,
such as I/O Base Address, Interrupt, BootROM and ISA bus mode (8 or
16-Bit), can be changed using pull-down menus with either a mouse or a
keyboard console.

For troubleshooting, QuickSet offers automatic and manual diagnostic tests
verifying the operation of board components and can even be used to
"burn-in" adapters for extended periods.

QuickSet Automatically Builds Software Drivers

In another feature designed to save installation time and remove "pilot
error", QuickSet automatically generates fully configured software drivers
for most major network operating systems. Drivers for Novell NetWare (both
IPX and ODI) and for Microsoft Lan Manager (NDIS) are automatically
generated with the selected hardware settings. These drivers are
ready-to-go, freeing the installer from the otherwise lengthy process of
building drivers using low-level utilities.

Free BootROM

BootROM code for the Kodiak-Kombo is contained in an on-board EEPROM which
can be enabled/disabled from the keyboard, eliminating tricky chip
installations and the cost of ordering optional kits. To enable the
BootROM code, the installer simply selects the BootROM option in the
QuickSet configuration table. Software updates can be easily loaded from
diskette or downloaded from the Kodiak Bulletin Board Service (BBS).

QuickSet Now Available on the Kodiak-Kombo

QuickSet will be demonstrated on a new adapter, the Kodiak-Kombo, which
offers all three Ethernet cabling options: thin coax (BNC), unshielded
twisted pair (RJ45) and AUI (DB15) for complete flexibility in
installations. This flexibility is particularly important for coax users
anticipating future use of 10Base-T and for resellers seeking to minimize
inventory requirements.

High performance is obtained with 64K Bytes of PacketCache buffer memory
and a complete suite of software drivers developed and supported by
Kodiak.
