ATI Enhances Its Graphics Accelerator Series Graphics VANTAGE, Graphics
ULTRA and 8514ULTRA

June 23, 1992 - The ATI Graphics VANTAGE, Graphics ULTRA and 8514-ULTRA
graphics boards now give AutoCAD, Windows 3.X, OS/2 and desktop publishing
users several more reasons to upgrade to a fast, affordable graphics
board.

"ATI's objective is to provide users with products which offer the best
price/performance combination," states Henry Quan, Director of Marketing
at ATI. "Even though the original Graphics VANTAGE, Graphics ULTRA and
8514-ULTRA cards have received industry acclaim, ATI has improved upon a
winning design to give users even better graphics acceleration and
enhancements at no extra cost." he adds.

Full Featured AutoCAD Drivers

ATI is now bundling fast, AutoCAD release 11 Protected Mode drivers from
Vibrant Graphics at no additional cost to the end user. These drivers,
valued at approximately $300(US), are available for 1280x1024, 1024x768,
800x600 and 640x480 resolutions, and have consistently been rated as a top
performer by both Cadalyst and Cadence magazines. Especially enhanced for
ATI Graphics Accelerators, these drivers make ATI's graphics boards the
fastest CAD accelerators in the below $2,000 (US) category.

Some of the features provided by these AutoCAD drivers are:

o Real-time Bird's Eye View.
o Button Zoom for quick and easy zooms.
o Fully customizable color, font and character size
   attributes.
o Pop-up text menu for single monitor users enables text
preview without having to exit AutoCAD drawing.
o Support for 1280x768/16 colors; 1024x768, 800x600 and
   640x480 in 16 or 256 colors.

Higher Resolution Display

The 1.0 Megabyte versions of the ATI Graphics Accelerator Series now
support a 1280x1024 interlaced display in 16 colors. Drivers supporting
this resolution are provided for Windows 3.0 and 3.1 with CRYSTAL Fonts
support and AutoCAD Protected Mode Release 11.

A 1280x1024 display gives users the ability to view 67% more information
on-screen compared to the 1024x768 displays. For example, a full-page view
of a Windows application can be seen entirely at 1280x1024, whereas only
60% of the same page can be viewed at 1024x768.

Using the Graphics VANTAGE, Graphics ULTRA and 8514-ULTRA boards, popular
monitors such as the NEC Multisyc 4FG and Nanao T7080i, which normally
support 1024x768 resolution at 70Hz, can now support 1280x1024 resolution
- eliminating the need to purchase expensive monitors.

Accelerated Drivers for Popular Resolutions

The ATI Graphics Accelerator boards are now equipped with 640x480 and
800x600 drivers which take advantage of the boards' Mach 8 graphics
coprocessor. These accelerated drivers support 16 colors with 512K of
memory and 256 colors with 1.0 MB of memory.

Traditionally, upgrading graphics performance has been an expensive process
involving the purchase of a new monitor and a new card. ATI also provides
drivers for lower resolutions, owners of standard VGA (640x480) and
Super-VGA monitors (640x480 and 800x600) can affordably upgrade their card
and take every advantage of ATI accelerated performance.

Higher Refresh Rate

Flickering displays have always been a source of fatigue, resulting in
lower user productivity. ATI's Graphics Accelerator Series has always
supported vertical refresh rates of 60Hz, and flicker-free refresh rates
of 70 and 72Hz. ATI now features a 76Hz rate to accommodate users of
large-screen monitors. Although 70 and 72Hz refresh rates effectively
eliminate flicker for 14-inch monitors, 16-inch monitors require high
frequencies of at least 76Hz to achieve the same crisp, clear display.
Monitors such as the NEC SD and Nanao T560i presently support refresh
rates as high as 76Hz. The Graphics Accelerator Series also has a custom
monitor configuration utility in its install, allowing users fexiblity in
adjusting custom resolution modes according to their monitor.

CRYSTAL Fonts Converter and CRYSTAL Tune

The new enhanced Graphics Accelerator Series CRYSTAL Fonts (ATI's
anti-aliasing font technology) provide an even higher quality image than
TrueType fonts which are incorporated into Windows 3.1. CRYSTAL Fonts work
transparently with TrueType fonts. When installed, CRYSTAL Fonts
automatically loads CRYSTAL Tune, a utility program which lets users
adjust the on-screen contrast used in the CRYSTAL Fonts antialiasing
technique, as well as provide the user with a choice of the optimal
Logical Dots Per Inch (LDPI) used on fonts for their particular needs
(Normal 1024x768/Large Desktop 1280x1024; Desktop Publishing 1024x768;
Large Desktop 1024x768; Normal 1280x1024) optimizing on-screen fonts to
look their best.

Graphics Accelerator board owners can now purchase the ATI CRYSTAL Fonts
Converter Kit which provides 22 pre-CRYSTALIZED Type 1 (Adobe and
Bitstream) fonts as well as a conversion utility to translate Adobe and
Bitstream fonts into CRYSTAL Font format. This converter kit is available
for Windows 3.0, 3.1 and OS/2 users for $39.95 directly from ATI.

Product Features Summary

The Graphics VANTAGE, Graphics ULTRA and 8514-ULTRA boards use the ATI Mach
8 graphics coprocessor for accelerated graphics performance. The ULTRA
cards have been found by leading publications such as PC Magazine, Byte,
Cadence and Cadalyst Magazine to be one of the fastest graphics cards
tested -- even when compared to Texas instruments TMS34020-based cards.
Under Windows 3.1, Windows benchmarks indicate that ATI Graphics
Accelerators boards show a 37% increase in BITBLT alignments and up to 87%
on other Windows functions.

The Graphics ULTRA and Graphics VANTAGE offer maximum graphics acceleration
and Super-VGA graphics on a single board designed for ISA computers. These
products include the ATI 38800 coprocessor chipset and the VGAWONDER+
chipset which has 512K of DRAM memory; a built-in mouse port; and a
Microsoft-compatible, 400 dpi mouse.

The 8514-ULTRA is a unique "flippy" board that offers maximum graphics
acceleration in either Micro Channel or ISA systems. The 8514-ULTRA is
ideal for users who want to supplement their existing VGA card. A VGA
pass-through feature connector on the 8514-ULTRA lets users run both
high-resolution and VGA applications on one monitor.

Both the Graphics ULTRA and 8514-ULTRA cards are available with 512K or 1.0
MB of coprocessor VRAM memory, and the Graphics VANTAGE comes with 512K or
1.0 MB of DRAM memory. All ATI Graphics Accelerator boards are memory
upgradeable.

Aside from offering excellent performance and an extensive feature set, ATI
Graphics Accelerators are fully 8514/A register level compatible. Being
8514/A compatible means that current and future drivers which support this
standard (and are already contained in many off-the-shelf software
packages) can be used effectively with any ATI Graphics Accelerator
board.

New Enhancements, New Lower Prices

The enhanced Graphics ULTRA, Graphics VANTAGE and 8514-ULTRA are currently

and 1.0 MB versions are $299.00 (US) and $349.00 (US), respectively. The
Graphics ULTRA 512K and 1.0 MB versions are $599.00 (US) and $699.00 (US),
respectively. The 8514-ULTRA 512K and 1.0 MB boards are priced at $499.00
(US) and $599.00 (US), respectively. The CRYSTAL Fonts Converter Kit
