                               INTRODUCTION
                               ============

Welcome to issue 2 of PC STUNN!

If you haven't had issue 1 or the demonstration issue of the
magazine, don't forget that these are still available as back
     issues.

There are a few slight changes this issue, to reflect a number of
developments that have taken place over the past few months.
Firstly, we have decided to make ALL of STUNN!'s services
available to every reader. There are now no longer any
     "low income" restrictions.

The second change is the address for business correspondence. You
can now contact the magazine at:

     STUNN!,
     707 Harvey Road,
     Alvaston,
     Derby DE24 0EH.

     Tel: (0332) 758967
     Fax: By Arrangement
     Modem & Answering Service Available

The main address for editorial matters remains unchanged,
although voice, fax and data telephone numbers are no longer
     available.

A limited Public Domain and Shareware service is also now in
operation - feel free to contact us for more information.

Finally, the message area on Wombat's Burrow II BBS is no longer
available. Instead, you can now use NEW AGE BBS on (0702) 715025
     (24hrs), Netmail address: 2:257/400

     LATE NEWS
     ---------

If you haven't already seen it splashed all over the
magazine, you may be interested to learn of the launch of a
new British Science Fiction club. See the very end of this
     introduction for their advertisement...

                                 * * *

There doesn't seem to much of a response coming in from
readers. Please take just a few minutes to tell us how we can
change the mag to suit your needs better. If you have a spare 20
minutes or so, why not complete the Readers' Survey?

                                   * * *

Things aren't going masssively well with the PC and Amiga
versions of the mag at the moment. We felt a little let down by
what came of Computer Shopper's offer of publicity (a tiny
mention in the User Groups page) and our other advertising
doesn't seem to have had much of an effect. On the other hand, we
have made some interesting contacts with a number of companies
and you'll hear more of this as things develop further.

Although the PC mag is now starting to pick up, the Amiga version
seems at a standstill for the moment. No doubt a renewed burst of
advertising will put it back on track.

We don't receive a great deal of feedback from our readers
because many of them only have access to the magazine's text
files via the Joint Academic NETwork (JANET) and bulletin board
systems. However, as with the ST STUNN!, the readership is likely
to become extremely large within the next few months or so. It
also helps that we've been placed in a few national archives and
     distributed on various CD ROMs.

We're pleased to welcome a few new faces to the magazine - check
out the details in the credits section. The STUNN!
editorial team now stands at something like 12 people, all of
whom are blessed with a variety of talents ranging from being
masters of the silicon chip to being pretty handy with a word
     processor.

                                   * * *

Sorry for the rather dry introduction to this issue but it ewas
important to get across some of the latest developments within
     STUNN!

Now get on and read the rest of the mag!

     THE FREE SOFTWARE
     *****************

This issue, we present a variety of programs for your delight.

Amongst these are BACK, a nifty little utility from Bryan Joyce
that can be used to automate the process of backing up files
across a drive. For example, say (like me) you work with dozens
of text files every day. Rather than copying them all manually to
new destination and then archiving them, just use BACK to do the
     whole job automatically (and quickly).

My second choice for this month is an excellent spreadsheet from
TRIUS, AsEasyAs Lite - complete with manual. Lotus 1-2-3, eat
     your heart out!

Finally, a suite of programs for Windows users. Firstly, there is
a copy of Microsoft's Speaker Driver, which goes into your
Windows directory and acts as a device driver for your PC's
internal speaker. Secondly, a few WAV files (Bart Simpson), to
replace the rather crude sounds included in Windows 3.1 Finally,
Makin' Waves is conversion program that will let you convert
different sound files into WAV format automatically. Note that
this program requires VBRUN100 (the Visual Basic Run Only
     Interpreter).

Access these programs from the magazine shell, which will allow
you to unZIP them to a location of your choice.
