June 1, 1992 -- PLACENTIA,CA. Sceptre Technologies, Inc. a California
manufacturer of quality computer monitors, launched a new ad campaign this
month that's bound to cause a stir in both consumer and trade
publications. The ad stars a 7.5 foot monitor Lizard named "Brutus".
Brutus previously appeared in the hit film "The Freshman" with Marlon
Brando and Mathew Broderick. The Monitor Lizard is a protected species
native to tropical regions in Africa and Asia, and Brutus himself figures
prominently in all of Sceptre's new promotional materials.

The initial Sceptre ad pictures Brutus, tongue flicking, in a jungle-like
setting in front of an array of Sceptre monitors. For the trade version,
the headline proclaims "There's only one monitor that can lick a Sceptre".
The consumer version says "Introducing the newest member of Sceptre's
Royal Family". Each version has its own body copy designed to appeal to
its respective audience.

The sight of a monster lizard among all the conventional ads in computer
magazines will undoubtedly get attention, but there's more to this
campaign that just a visual gimmick. Sceptre will also make a cash
donation to a wildlife conservation group to support ongoing efforts to
protect the Monitor Lizard. In fact, for the six months between the ad's
launch and COMDEX Fall, Sceptre will donate a percentage of all monitor
sales to preservation of endangered species.

According to Sceptre's president, Wilson Chiu, the campaign makes a serious
statement despite the light-hearted nature of the advertising. Chiu
believes it's important for all of us to do something that will help
preserve natural habitats and their creatures. "I want to show that you
don't need to be Chevron to make a contribution" he said, "all of us can
make a difference". For emphasis, he added "Just think how powerful it
would be if every business, great or small, would give even a little to
some environmental or ecology group. The combined total effect would be
overwhelming!"

When asked why he chose a giant lizard for his campaign out of the many
symbols he could have selected, Wilson Chiu explained "Since our company
makes monitors, we thought it would be both fun and appropriate to support
the Monitor Lizard. And since the species really is in danger, we feel we
are supporting a worthy cause".

Sceptre's first "King of the Monitors" ad premiered in the June 1 issue of
Computer Reseller News. Subsequent full-page ads will appear in Windows
and Benchmarks magazines. The new campaign also includes a similarly
themed new product brochure, a poster promotion and a direct mail program
to resellers nationwide.
