New York, NY -- June 23-25, 1992 -- This week at PC EXPO, RISO, Inc.
demonstrated the newly introduced RC Series Publisher, a PC-based document
processing system offering high-speed printing, input scanning of graphic
and text documents, and stand-alone copy/duplicating capabilities for less
than $20,000. The fully-integrated, multi-function system has a small
footprint for easy installation and can be operated by non-technical
users. It comprises the company's 130 page-per-minute Risograph digital
duplicator with an IBM PC and/or Apple Macintosh personal computer
interface that emulates the HewlettPackard LaserJet Series II & III and
Apple LaserWriter II.

The introduction of the RC Series Publisher signals RISO's expansion into
the growing market for multi-function document processing systems. RISO's
move leverages the company's position as the leading vendor in the North
American duplicator market, based on its Risograph line of digital
duplicators. Risograph digital duplicators employ patented RISO technology
that integrates automatic digital scanning, thermal mastering and ink
printing. Market research Firm Dataquest estimated in 1991 that the
Risograph was number one in U.S. duplicator placements.

"The RC Series Publisher is a powerful document processing solution in
today's economy, with budgets shrinking and everyone being asked to do
more for less," said John C. Carillon, RISO's president and chief
executive officer. "It is the first system to marry IBM PC's and Apple
Macintosh's with the most cost-effective and proven duplicating method
available today."

RC Series Publisher: Key Features and Benefits

The principal document capabilities offered by the RC Series Publisher
are:

. Output Printing - Prints 130 pages per minute in a choice of up to seven
ink colors; emulates HP LaserJet Series II and m through a choice of
interfaces; offers a high-speed Intel i960 25MHz RISC processor, supports
HP PCL IV and V with optional support for Apple LaserWriter II
(Microsoft's TrueImage PostScript Interpreter) and AppleTalk.

. Flexible Document Input Scanning - Allows users to combine hard copy
text, photographs and artwork with computer generated text and graphics.
The Risograph's scanner provides easy capture of high quality text and
graphic images from a variety of sources. Using optical character
recognition (OCR) software, the input document can be edited and then
printed in revised form.

. Economical and Reliable Copy/Duplicating - Digital ink printing
technology enables the RC Series to handle large duplicating tasks at
costs as low as 1/3 cent per copy. The Risograph requires fewer moving
parts than the typical copier, resulting in fewer service calls, longer
preventative maintenance cycles (300,000) and reduced servicing costs.

Product Incorporates Technology for Ease of Use

RISO's new system features some of the newest technology available. Its
highspeed document processor is one of the first to be driven by Intel's
i960 25MHz RISC processor. It also offers Microsoft's new TrueImage
PostScript Interpreter and PeerlessPrint 5, emulating Hewlett-Packard's
PCL V printer language with scalable font technology.

For high software compatibility, the system offers emulation for the HP
LaserJet Series II & m and the Apple LaserWriter II. Easy connection to
almost any PC is possible through the system's standard and optional
interfaces: parallel, serial RS232C serial RS422, SCSI and AppleTalk. A
printing and scanning utility software package is included with each
system to give users advanced operation features.

Freedom from Laser Printer and Xerographic Copier Problems

The printing technology used in RISO duplicators does not have the complex
mechanisms and problems associated with laser printers and xerographic
copiers. The RC Series systems have no heat and pressure fusing system,
toner/developer assembly, complicated optics, photoconductor or high
voltage electronics. This results in minimal breakdowns and service
requirements and significantly extends machine life.

Environmentally Sound Products

In addition, all RISO products are environmentally safe. They are free from
ozone emissions, toxic fumes, flammable liquids, high voltage or
ultraviolet light.

Pricing and Availability

The RISO RC Series Publisher is available now in a variety of models. A
combination of three base systems can be intermixed with two different
interface models and a wide range of accessories. Retail prices range from
approximately $14,500 to $17,500 depending on the selected model and
options.
