Huntingdon Valley, PA, March 3, 1992--OCR Systems, Inc., the developers of
the ReadRight family of omnifont optical character recognition software,
today announced the availability of ReadRight for Pen, an online
recognition engine for pen-based computer systems that operate the in
PenPoint or Windows for Pen Computing 3.1 environments. ReadRight for Pen
is a powerful recognizer for developers and manufacturers who plan to
offer systems for the pen environment.

ReadRight for Pen recognizes handprinted characters with a high degree of
accuracy (99%), including alphanumeric, upper and lower case, special
characters and mixed data, such as part numbers. By using the advanced
segmentation technology of this recognition engine, touching, broken or
irregularly spaced characters that are a common source of error for
handprint recognizers can be read accurately.

ReadRight for Pen's writer-independent handprint recognition works like
omnifont OCR: it recognizes a writer's handprinting right away, which
eliminates the need for users to train it on particular handwriting
styles. Also, ReadRight for Pen is stroke-order independent, which allows
the user to write the character in any order without having to learn a new
way of writing.

ReadRight for Pen, Release 1.0, is a software-only product that has minimal
system requirements of 300K RAM, and recognizes at 30-40 characters per
second. In addition to supporting PenPoint and Windows for Pen Computing
3.1, ReadRight works with all tablets through the operating system.

"ReadRight for Pen will allow many integrators and manufacturers to enhance
their penbased computers and offer their clients a more flexible working
environment," commented Harry S. Gierhart, President of OCR Systems, Inc.
"By offering a state-of-the-art writer-independent recognizer, we are
confident that we add value to pen computing systems."

OCR Systems, Inc., founded in 1969, has pioneered many advanced techniques
in optical character recognition. OCR Systems offers a family of ReadRight
products for flatbed and hand-held scanners, supporting a wide range of
platforms and environments. The company also licenses the ReadRight
Software Development Kit (RSDK) for Windows 3.0, OS/2, Macintosh, NeXT,
and SPARCstation.
