Richardson, Texas (June 23, 1992) -- Micrografx, Inc., the first and
leading developer of Windows-compatible graphics applications, announces
that today it is shipping version 3.1 of Picture Publisher, the
highest-rated product in the image-editing software category.

Sporting a host of new features and supporting leading-edge technology
standards such as Object Linking and Embedding (OLE), TWAIN and Kodak
Photo CD--all at a retail price of $495--Picture Publisher 3.1 represents
an unbeatable value for serious image-editing software users, according to
George Grayson, president and chief operating officer of Micrografx.

"We designed Picture Publisher to satisfy the high-end demands of photo
designers and for business users who want to add visual impact to
proposals, newsletters, documents and presentations," Grayson says. "It
has won Publish magazine's 'Reader's Choice' award three years in a row.
Picture Publisher also was called 'the best competitor out there' by PC
Magazine and received the highest overall score of any PC or
Macintosh-based image editor in InfoWorld this past March," he notes.
''With the new features and the support for emerging standards that we've
just added, Picture Publisher is now more unbeatable than ever."

Responding to User Requests

Along with other new features such as ImageBrowser, advanced editing,
stitching and Windows 3.1 drag-and-drop functionality, Picture Publisher
3.1 is the first 24-bit image-editing software for Windows that is
shipping with support for TWAIN, OLE and Kodak Photo CD, according to
Picture Publisher product manager Grant Wickes.

Wickes states that the new ImageBrowser is ideal for advanced and
first-time users alike. The ImageBrowser provides visual "thumbnails" of
bitmap files so that users can look at the files they wish to open. This
eliminates the problem of trying to find files based solely on
eight-character file names. Users also can see the file size, plus rename
or delete a file from the ImageBrowser.

"Advanced users of Picture Publisher asked for enhancements to editing
tools," observes Wickes. "With our new Advanced Editing feature,
experienced users can now enjoy the ability to work with additive or
subtractive color theory."

"Our large installed base of hand-scanner users requested what's called
'stitching' capability," Wickes adds. "The 'stitching' capability now
enables a user to join together multiple strips of images that are too
large for the hand scanner to scan at once."

"Picture Publisher is a fully registered Windows application that now
exploits the full functionality of Windows 3.1. 'Drag and drop,' for
example, allows users to take one or more supported bitmap files, drag and
drop them on the Picture Publisher icon and open Picture Publisher with
the selected files already in the program," Wickes explains.

A "Convert To" command for converting file types, a one-bit option for
editing scanned line art, JPEG file compression and 14 new scanner drivers
also have been added in Picture Publisher 3.1.

Support for Emerging Standards

As the first 24-bit image-editing software for Windows to support TWAIN,
OLE and Kodak Photo CD, Picture Publisher 3.1 expresses Micrografx's
commitment to these emerging standards, according to Kristy Holch, senior
market analyst at BIS Strategic Decisions in Norwall, Massachusetts.

"Micrografx is demonstrating an industry-responsible attitude by designing
Picture Publisher with an open architecture. It's important to support a
specification so that it can become a standard," says Holch, adding, "It's
notable that Micrografx has given priority to these specifications.''

In addition to supporting Microsoft OLE, Picture Publisher supports new
TWAIN specifications for a scanner-software interface established by
Hewlett-Packard, Logitech, Kodak and others. "This demonstrates
Micrografx's commitment to growing the imaging industry by supporting this
standard," suggests Holch. Similarly, support for the Kodak Photo CD
specification means that users will experience little or no color shifting
between scanning and application, according to Holch.
