(New York, June 23, 1992)--Recognizing the need to develop a device for
integrating printers with Novell Ethernet local area networks, NEC
Technologies, Inc. today introduced the LANCruiser network adapter, a
compact print server that plugs directly into the parallel port of NEC
Silentwriter, Colormate and Pinwriter printers.

Compatible with versions 2.2 and 3.11 of Novell NetWare, the LANCruiser
network adapter provides a direct network connection to printers--up to
eight queues on eight file servers--located anywhere on a LAN. As a
result, print speed is significantly improved in comparison to direct
printer/file server connections.

"As LANS become standard components of corporate computing infrastructures,
the need to better integrate printers into networks has risen
dramatically. LANCruiser provides users with a cost-effective,
performance-enhancing solution for the sharing of printing resources,"
said John McIntyre, director of marketing for NEC's Printer Division.
"LANCruiser complements the multiplatform capability of NEC's Silentwriter
Model 95 laser printer. The benefits of the Adobe PostScript language are
most easily recognized in networks of heterogeneous systems--PC,
Macintosh, UNIX-- sharing a singular output device."

To identify hardware errors and alert users to any problems, the LANCruiser
network adapter enables users to print status and configuration
information at the push of a switch. In addition, the LANCruiser network
adapter supports standard NetWare printing features such as encrypted
passwords, forms management, and the "cancel" function.

Available in both thin wire and twisted pair cable format, the LANCruiser
network adapter ships with setup and installation software disks, and a
full complement of self-test and diagnostic functionality.

Pricing and Distribution Information

The LANCruiser network adapter will be available from NEC's nationwide
network of authorized resellers during the fourth quarter of calendar year
1992 at a suggested retail Price of $649.
