NEW YORK, June 23, 1992 -- End users now have access to the ultimate
feature combination that no other dot matrix printer can offer: quiet
technology, scalable fonts and color capability all in one. Panasonic
Communications & Systems Company's (PCSC) Office Automation (OA) Group,
which recently unveiled the industry's quietest line of dot matrix
printers, is exhibiting the new KX-P2124 and its family of quiet printers
at PC Expo booth 4334 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center.

Incorporating a unique combination of breakthrough noise-reduction
technologies, the KX-P2124 features significantly quieter operation than
traditional dot matrix printers, offers Adobe Type Manager (ATM ) software
with scalable fonts, and also supports an optional color printing kit.
Using ATM software, computer users can now customize Adobe outline fonts
to virtually any point size directly from Panasonic OA's other 24-pin
quiet printers as well -- the KX-P2624 and KX-P2123.

"Panasonic OA was the first company to introduce quiet technology in dot
matrix printers, which was hailed by industry analysts as a significant
step that infused life into a mature market," said Terry Shorrock,
national marketing manager of Panasonic OA's Computer Products Division.
"We've taken this two steps further by also offering scalable fonts and
color capability in our new quiet printers."

ATM is a software utility that enables end users to scale Adobe typeface.
It provides an easy and transparent way to add scalable fonts to virtually
any Windows printer and Windows display screen. Panasonic OA is packaging
the following 13 scalable Adobe typefaces with its printers: Times, Times
Italic, Times Bold, Times Bold Italic, Helvetica, Helvetica Oblique,
Helvetica Bold, Helvetica Bold Oblique, Courier, Courier Oblique, Courier
Bold, Courier Bold Oblique and a Symbol set.

24-Pin Quiet Printers

The narrow-carriage KX-P2124 and KX-P2123 and the wide-carriage KX-P2624
printers all feature low-noise level ratings of 46.5 dBA in normal mode
and 43.5 dBA in super-quiet mode. All three quiet printers offer optional
color printing kits and feature "EZ-Set" operator panels that allow users
to select such functions as fonts, pitch, text enhancements, form length,
lines per inch, margins and super-quiet mode.

The quiet printers incorporate IBM Proprinter X24E and Epson LQ-860
emulations and are compatible with virtually all off-the-shelf software.
They also come standard with a Centronics parallel interface and offer an
optional RS-232C serial interface.

KX-P2124

Positioned as a direct upgrade to the KX-P1124i, this printer targets
business and home-professional users who want exceptional print quality,
color output, speed and ease-of-use features. It packs many advanced
features usually found in mid-range printers, including a 16-character
liquid crystal display on the control panel, but is priced aggressively in
the range of low-end products.

The KX-P2124 prints at a maximum burst speed of 320 characters per second
(cps) in draft mode and up to 106 in letter-quality (LQ) at 15 characters
per inch (cpi). It prints at 42 cps in super-letter-quality (SLQ) mode at
12 cpi. The KX-P2124 offers a total of 12 resident fonts, including an SLQ
font, which produces output that has double the character matrix of an LQ
font and approaches the look of a laser printer. In addition, there are
three draft fonts and eight LQ fonts, which are Courier, Prestige, Bold
PS, Script, Sans Serif, Orator, Roman and OCR-B. It has a 20K buffer,
which is expandable to 52K with an optional 32K buffer chip. The KX-P2124
is available for a suggested retail price (SRP) of $549.95.

KX-P2123

The KX-P2123 is targeted at budget-conscious small-business and home-office
users who desire the benefits of quiet technology, high-quality output and
color capability at a low price. The KX-P2123, which is designed with many
of the same quality features as Panasonic OA's KX-P1123, offers a broad
choice of three draft fonts, an SLQ font, and six LQ fonts: Courier,
Prestige, Bold PS, Script, Sans Serif and Roman.

The KX-P2123 prints at a maximum burst speed of 240 cps in draft mode and
up to 80 cps in LQ mode at 15 cpi. In SLQ mode, it prints at 32 cps at 12
cpi. The printer is equipped with a 14K buffer, expandable to 46K using an
optional 32K buffer chip. The KX-P2123 is available for an SRP of $419.95

KX-P2624

The first printer to incorporate Panasonic OA's new quiet technology, the
KX-P2624 is targeted at businesses who demand a fast, fully featured
personal printer and require a quiet work environment. The KX-P2624 prints
at a maximum burst speed of 300 cps in draft at 15 cpi. At 12 cpi, it
prints at 100 cps in LQ and 40 cps in SLQ.

This printer provides users with a total of 11 resident fonts: an SLQ font,
three draft and seven LQ (Courier, Prestige, Bold PS, Script, Sans Serif,
Orator and Roman.) The KX-P2624 is available for an SRP of $649.95

KX-P2180

Panasonic OA's KX-P2180 is a nine-pin unit that is positioned to establish
a new price/performance level in this market. Setting a nine-pin industry
standard for low noise at 48 dBA in standard mode and 45 dBA in
super-quiet mode, the KX-P2180 provides home-office professionals and
small-business end users a quiet cost-efficient output solution.

The KX-P2180, which is similar to the KX-P1180i, is equipped with a new
cabinet and also offers an optional color printing kit. It prints 240 cps
in draft at 15 cpi and 38 cps in near-letter-quality (NLQ) at 12 cpi and
offers nine resident fonts (three draft and six LQ fonts: Courier,
Prestige, Bold PS, Sans Serif, Script and Roman). It is equipped with a 4K
buffer and comes standard with a Centronics parallel interface and an
optional RS-232C serial interface. It also incorporates IBM Proprinter III
and Epson FX-850 emulations (plus color extensions). The KX-P2180 is
available for an SRP of $299.95.
