TROY, N.Y., June 23, 1992 -- MapInfo Corporation's new Developer Program
provides comprehensive support to both corporate and third-party
application developers to ensure the successful design and integration of
desktop mapping applications.

"Developers are instrumental in delivering desktop mapping applications to
corporate IS organizations," said Kevin Harrison, vice president, sales.
"MapInfo created the Developer Program to give all-out support to this
critical channel."

MapInfo desktop mapping software links geography and data stored in popular
databases and spreadsheets such as dBASE, Lotus 1-2-3, Excel as well as
delimited ASCII files. As a result, organizations can manage and analyze
information geographically to see new relationships among data and
identify hidden opportunities.

MapInfo is now shipping its new MapBasic Development Environment, the first
BASIC-like programming technology for custom desktop mapping applications
on graphical user interface (GUI) platforms. MapBasic is a true
development language that supports Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE), Dynamic
Link Libraries (DLL), embedded SQL statements and more.

MapBasic works with MapInfo Version 2.0 for Windows, also shipping now.
Both new products are being demonstrated at PC EXPO (booth #4410).
Applications compiled with the MapBasic Development Environment will also
run under MapInfo Version 2.0 for Macintosh, Sun and HP, all available
later this year.

The combination of MapBasic and MapInfo gives developers the ability to
create industry-specific desktop applications -- based on common business
terminology -- that are easily adapted by end-users. A MapBasic
application for insurance underwriters, for example, would combine
familiar insurance classification codes with pertinent geographic data.
Now underwriters can use the application to analyze risk factors when
preparing a policy, taking into account crime statistics, toxic waste
sites, windstorms, flood plains, earthquakes, lightning, snow loads,
sinkholes, etc.

Other developer products from MapInfo include:

MapCode for MapInfo for DOS, introduced in 1988 as the first programming
language for custom desktop mapping applications.

RealTime MapInfo, introduced in 1991, works with MapCode to allow realtime
on-screen display and analysis of data through serial port communications
with data from global positioning system (GPS) technology, Loran C or
telemetry.
