June 23, 1992 -- LAKE MARY, FLORIDA -- Maynard Electronics, an Archive
company, today introduced the new ArchiveXL 9250 minicartridge tape backup
system with QlCstream 3.0XL software. The new, one-inch high ArchiveXL
drive doubles the data transfer rate of the system when run on a
1MB/second floppy controller. Designed for standalone and small business
users, the system offers full backup support for NetWare 386 networks and
capacities up to 250MB with software data compression. The ArchiveXL
system with QICstream 3.0XL software will be available late this summer
with suggested retail prices ranging from $499 to $679, including media.

The new ArchiveXL 9250 hardware supports a 1MB/second floppy controller
while maintaining compatibility with the installed base of 500Kb/second
controllers. The 1MB/second controller card doubles the data transfer rate
of the ArchiveXL drive to 4.4 MB/minute, and gives the user an effective
backup speed of approximately 8 MB/minute with data compression software.
The new FastSense automatic sensing feature allows the drive to determine
the transfer rate capability of the host system and match it to the speed
of the drive.

Thanks to a new design it now is possible to configure the ArchiveXL 9250
as a true one-inch drive. The drive is small enough to fit into a standard
one-inch-high expansion slot, while maintaining compatibility with 5.25 or
3.5-inch drive bays, to provide a quick and easy solution to a variety of
installation needs.

"The new ArchiveXL drive with QICstream 3.0XL software offers a combination
of price and performance that many small business users and value-added
resellers will find attractive," said Chis Tipton, vice president of
Maynard's Systems Business Group. "The new system is a cost effective
alternative to floppy disk backup because it's faster, less expensive per
megabyte and automatic."

QICstream 3.0XL software provides full support for NetWare 2.x and 3.x
networks, and can easily be installed internally in a PC or compatible
using the existing floppy controller. The software is designed to lead
inexperienced users through a full backup and restore with simple menus
and pop-up questions. Through the use of the STAC data compression
algorithm and extended length tapes, users can store approximately 250MB
of data on a single tape, making it a cost-effective solution for small
DOS network backup. Current ArchiveXL system users can upgrade to
QICstream 3.0XL software for $49 through the Maynard software upgrade
program.

NetWare system support in the new system includes backup of NetWare 3.11
binderies, file and directory attributes and trustees. Expanded memory
support allows backup of large file systems and on-the-fly tape formatting
lets the user complete a backup process with minimal interruption. The
system also can backup from multiple drives in a single session, verify
during a backup, and can perform a disk to tape comparison of all files
after a backup session. The system also provides unattended backup,
flexible file selection, password protection, mouse support, DOS full
screen support for Windows and data directories on tape for rapid file
location.
