Sceptre's Touch Screen is "Resistive Membrane" type with the unique
INVISIBLE SPACING TECHNIQUE which assures the best sensitivity and
cosmetic appearance. At Sceptre, we are commited to offer consisttently
highest quality and lowest price for the followin products:

1. Standard Touch Screen for Flat-Panel Display
Many standard touch screens, both analog and matrix, are available
for the most popular LCD's and EL displays.

2. Custom design Capability
our touch screen can be custom designed into any size, any shape
with any kind of switch postiions arrangement.

3. EZ ADD-ON touch Screen for CRT Monitors
The most economic analog touch screen can now be easily mounted
to CRT monitors within 10 minutes. The touch screen is available
   with RS232/PC-Bus dual-purpose controller card.

4. Touch-Sensed Monitor
   a. KTST-64: A slimline desktop 640x480 STN LCD Monitor equipped
with analog touch screen and controller card is CGA/EGA
compatible. This lightweight, 11" diagonal monitor can plus
directly into the 9-pin video output port of an IBM XT/AT
      compatible PC.
   b. KTHR-58: This is a compact rugged EL monitor, also equipped
with analog touch screen and controller card which has
640x400 pixels. When used with FPC-AT adaptor, the monitor
can then be connected to an IBM XT/AT compatible.

5. Custom Control Panel
We also supply conductive rubber keypad, membrane switch and LCD.
Therefore, we have the capability of combining those components
with our Touch Screen and the display system of your choice into
   a fully integrated control panel.

Touch Screen is a direct interaction with displayed information by
touching. To accomplish this, a position sensor is placed in front of the
display system which is linked to microprocessor to relate location and
information on the display. The operator will then be able to communicate
to a menu-driven system by walking their finger across the display.

The fast growth of touch screen technology is in response to the rapidly
increasing demand of computerized devices being used in many areas by the
operators who have minimum or no training in computer operations. Those
areas include: Industrial process control, Maching operation, Medical
Diagnostics, Laboratory testing analysis, Military weaponry, Catalog or
directory searching systems where the easiest man-machine interface is
required to operate a menu-driven system by presenting choices and
obtaining feedbacks.

Fast Response and Virtually Error-Free input are critically important to
some industrial, medical and military applications. The interface system
must be designed to minimize or totally eliminate procedures from
operator's memory in order to control and operate the system. A
computerized system with Touch Screen input will allow the operator to be
able to use recognizing method instead of recalling method. Only the
allowable options will be displayed at the time the input from the
operator is required. The operator will recognize those options instead of
memorizing them and make the choice by directly touching the selected
category.

Membrane Touch Screen is similar to conventional membrane switch in
structure, except the conductive material of touch screen is made of
Indium Tin Oxide (ITO) which is sputtered onto plastic films, usually
polyester. Two Conductive layers are laminated together with insulting
spacer in between. The top layer can be flexed by applying pressure to
make contact to bottom layer, the contact is broken when the pressure is
released. Therefore, this kind of device can serve as a normally open,
momentarily closed switch.

Matrix Type Touch Screen has the etched ITO conductive arrays on top and
bottom layers (rows and columns) with their directions perpendicular to
each other. The touching position is sensed by detecting the contact
between certain column and row. The resolution of the matrix type is fixed
once the touch screen is made. On the other hand, Analog type Touch
Screen's resolution can be defined by software through an A/D converter.
The touching position may be precisely detected to the tolerance range of
pixel level. The analog type is made of two continuous resistive layers.
The touching point is resolved by comparing the resistance (or voltage)
which is proportional to the coordinates.

SCEPTRE has the capability of designing and manufacturing both Matrix and
analog, touch screens with the unique Invisible Spacing Technique which
assures no visual interference with data presentation in the viewin garea,
it can also minimize the non-responsive area due to the existence of
spacers, hence improves the sensitivity of touch.

TS-232B Controller Card

The TS-232B Controller Card, is a half-size card designed to interface with
Scepter's Analog Touch screen through an 8-bit analog to digital converter
(ADC), and host with serial communication link. The controller is operated
on a single voltage, +5VCD, with maximum of 300 mA. It can be either
plugged into an empty PC slot or mounted seperately with an optional power
supply. When the touch screen is touched, the X coordinate is determined
by having X= set at +5V, X-grounded, and reading analog signal at Y+. The
y-coordinate is determined by having Y+ set at +5V, Y grounded, and
reading X+. The ADC accepts the input of X+, Y+ values after they are
filtered to minimize the noise. The conversions are completed within 50ms.
The controller will make another verification reading to discard those
readings made during the making and breaking contacts of touch screen. If
the data are valid after verification, they are then transmitted to the
host. The controller is IBM XT/AT PC compatible with 256x256 touch
resolution. The output is at standard RS-232C levels. A cable with DB-9
connector is included for connecting to serial port. Also included are
user's manual and software for calibration and setting up. The controller
is designed to be configured for a variety of operating modes and options
through a software setup sequence.
