AT&T, IBM, Hewlett-Packard and 15 other companies recently formed a group
to promote Fibre Channel, a technology developed by the American National
Standards Institute. Fibre Channel can move data at more than 1 Gbps
between workstations and massive storage devices.

Quattro Pro 5.0 for Windows is to be available next month and was designed
with client-server in mind. A Network Deployment feature will allow
hundreds of users on Novell NetWare LANs to access the program. Previous
versions had to be loaded onto individual PCs on the LAN and the devices
had to be reconfigured to run the application. Future versions may support
other network operating systems but there are no specific plans right
now.

IBM's Adstar disk-drive unit has gone to court, charging Conner Peripherals
with infringing on IBM patents for magnetic disk storage technology. IBM
is seeking damages for past infringements and a court order prohibiting
Conner from producing parts that infringe on IBM patents.

ATI and Intel are about to introduce a new multimedia standard -- SFBI
(Shared Frame Buffer Interconnect) integrates full-motion video and
graphics for lower costs and easier installation for users, plus improved
performance. Plus it's an open standard!

Supra cuts fax/modem prices again. The SupraFAXModem V.32bis/42bis PC
internal modem was just dropped to $149.95 MSR. The 144 LC for PCs drops
from $229.95 to $179.95; 144 LC for Macs from $269.95 to $189.95

Seikosha has a new economical 9-pin narrow carriage printer coming in
November. SP-2100 has a draft speed of 210 cps with two resident fonts,
parallel interface and more.

CheckUPS II for DOS does its own graphing and display, no need to go to a
spreadsheet to see your data in a chart. Adds monitoring, charting and
power quality diary to the simple shut-down controls of its predecessor.
