PANASONIC ELECTRONIC FILING SYSTEM COMBINES BROAD ARRAY OF FEATURES AND
USER BENEFITS WITH LOW, END-USER PRICE

SECAUCUS, NJ -- The speed of a 40 pages per minute scanner and capacity of
a magneto-optical drive are now available for under $15,000 in a new
Electronic Filing System introduced by Panasonic Communications & Systems
Company. "After analyzing the potential market and needs of potential
end-users, Panasonic is introducing the KV-F51, that is a breakthrough, a
turnkey Electronic Filing System at an unprecedented price performance
level," said Steven Yuhas, President of Panasonic Communications & Systems
Company, headquartered here.

The new Panasonic System offers high-level functionality dedicated to
document filing. It features: (1) a letter-sized liquid crystal display
that can be turned vertically or horizontally, (2) high speed scanning at
40 pages per minute and printing at 4 pages per minute, (3) a
magneto-optical disk drive, and (4) a choice of either thermal or plain
paper printer output.

With a thermal printer, the suggested end-user price of the Panasonic
Electronic Filing System is just under $15,000; with plain paper printer
output, the suggested end-user price is slightly over $16,000.

"Based on our extensive research of this fast booming electronic market,"
continued Steven Yuhas, "no other complete system currently offers the
price performance of 3.5" magneto-optical drive, full page screen, 40
pages per minute scan rate, and compact design of the KV-F51. Optional
communication capabilities allow users to add group 3 fax, SCSI-2, or
Ethernet connections, to access the stored information at the next desk or
around the world."

The KV-F51 offers flexibility in filing. (1) With Cabinet style filing, the
user can select from up to 8 cabinets, 16 drawers, and 128 folders per
disk. (2) With Key Word filing, documents can be filed under a matrix of 8
categories of 80 words each, with up to 640 key words to choose from. (3)
With Box style filing, the storage disk is divided into 32 boxes and users
can file documents in the proper box.

Input, Storage, Output

A user can scan, display and store documents on the optical disk at 40
pages per minute using a choice of single document scan, divided scan, or
batch scan entry. Retrieval is easy, offering a choice of retrieval by
document name, image index, or document display method. Flexible Document
display features offer a choice of standard size, viewpage, enlarge
magnification window using the mouse.

A user can print either full documents or selected unique notepad feature
allows notes to be added to documents without disturbing the original
image.

Unified Components

The Panasonic Electronic Filing System, designated KV-F51, is a totally
integrated and compact unit, small enough to fit on a secretarial desk's
return. The display is a rotatable 8 1/2" x 11" back-lit, virtual
resolution liquid crystal display with 1280 x 960 dot configuration, each
dot 4.4mm across. This enables users to view an entire legal-size page on
the screen at one time in either landscape or portrait mode.

When being used as a scanner, the system accepts 40 letter-size pages per
minute and documents in various sizes from 3" x 6" check size to 8 1/2" x
14" legal size with 200 x 200 dots per inch, a 32 unit gray scale, a 400 x
400 dots per inch superfine mode and photo mode, and an easy-to-use
reverse gravity paper feed. The high speed facilitates rapid entry of
documents, especially so with its standard 50 page Automatic Document
Feeder.

There is a choice of printers. A thermal printer with 200 dots per inch
operates at 4 pages per minute. If a user wants plain paper printout, a
LED printer is available. It has 300 dots per inch resolution and operates
at 4 pages per minute.

The KV-F51 comes standard with: a 3 1/2" magneto-optical 128 megabyte drive
which stores approximately 3000 pages per disk, and a 3 1/2" floppy disk
drive.

The Panasonic Electronic Filing System comes standard with interfaces: a
video interface that connects the printer/scanner to the central unit, an
SCSI-2 interface to connect the optional optical drives, a flatbed scanner
or a jukebox, and an RS232C interface. The unit comes with a 2-button
mouse. The keyboard is an ASCII standard keyboard with 10 function keys
and two special function programmable keys.
