AMT ANNOUNCES C-SIZE INKJET PLOTTER

CAMARILLO, CA--Advanced Matrix Technology, Inc. (AMT), a manufacturer of
dot matrix printers, has announced the Intelli-Plot InkJet plotter, the
company's first inkjet offering. Combining Canon's BJP-50 bubblejet print
engine with the advanced plotting capabilities of AMT's well-established
Intelli-Plot line, the Intelli-Plot InkJet delivers C-size (or ISO
A2-size) drawings in under five minutes, variable plot resolutions up to
360 x 360 dots per inch, easy-to-use operator controls, and the proven
reliability of "drop-on-demand" bubblejet technology.

"We looked at what other OEMs have done with Canon's inkjet engine and knew
we could do better," said Greg Larson, AMT's inkjet product manager.
"First, we designed a data controller that receives and rasterizes
plotting data faster and more efficiently. Then we replaced the engine's
cryptic control panel with AMT's patented Select-dial' and a plain-English
LCD. We also added a printer pedestal with built-in C-size roll-paper
feeder so that the plotter can operate unattended for long periods of
time." AMT boasts that these changes, and others, make the Intelli-Plot
InkJet easier to use and more feature-packed than the Pacific Data Product
ProTracer, Houston Instrument JetPro, or JRL JR-670 -- all of which use
the same Canon engine.

The Intelli-Plot InkJet can receive up to 20 HP-GL/2X and AutoCAD ADI plot
descriptions at a time via its simultaneously active Centronics-compatible
parallel and RS-232 serial interfaces. As the InkJet receives each plot it
compresses the data for the most compact storage and then places it into
an internal drawing queue. The user is free to manipulate drawings as
desired, using the Select-dial control panel. Drawings can be scaled
horizontally, vertically or proportionally; positioned up or down, left or
right; or rotated around the page. Or, since the Intelli-Plot InkJet can
sense the page size, it can automatically scale and position drawings to
best fit the page.

The Intelli-Plot InkJet comes with many other useful features, including
multiple copy plotting, automatic replot, auto paper parking, and
convenient queue control. The InkJet provides 15 logical pens that the
user can set to draw lines from 0.07 to 0.98 millimeters thick. Plus the
user can turn any pen off, which allows unwanted lines or layers to be
removed from the drawing. These changes can be made at plot time and take
effect immediately, without the need to resend the drawing. A drawing can
be plotted at low-resolution to check sizing and positioning, and then
replotted at high-resolution by pressing a single button.

Another convenient feature of the Intelli-Plot InkJet, is its long-axis
plotting capabilities. The InkJet can plot individual drawings up to 15.5
inches wide by 91 inches long and can automatically abut these drawings to
make plots of unlimited length. The roll-paper feeder that is included
with the plotter is especially handy for this application.

"The Intelli-Plot InkJet operates very quietly," said David Beardsley,
AMT's Vice-President of Sales, "you can hardly hear it plotting. You get
C-size plots in about five minutes, B-size in about 2-1/2, and A-size in
1-1/2." The InkJet can plot on all common drafting media, including plain,
bond or plotter paper, and vellum. It accepts cut sheets and roll paper
through its front paper entry slot and pin-fed continuous forms paper
through its built-in forms tractor. AMT plans to sell 1 7-inch wide bond,
chart and vellum roll paper for the InkJet, as well as front and rear
cutsheet feeders that hold 100 sheets apiece.

Despite its C-size output, the Intelli-Plot InkJet is a desktop plotter. It
uses pop-in ink cartridges that provide approximately two million
characters. Other than replacing ink cartridges from time-to-time, the
InkJet is virtually maintenance-free. Normal operation provides automatic
head capping and cleaning, plus internal diagnostics and real-time fault
reporting.

In addition to the plotting capabilities, the Intelli-Plot InkJet emulates
the IBM XL24 Proprinter. This feature lets the InkJet be used for
day-to-day word processing, desktop publishing and spreadsheets. The
plotter automatically senses whether incoming data is plot data or print
data, so the user is not burdened with any setup or configuration
routines.

AMT plans to begin shipments of the Intelli-Plot InkJet in September 1993.
The retail price of the Intelli-Plot InkJet will be $1,995 which includes
the printer pedestal, roll paper feeder, and one-year manufacturer's
warranty. The front sheetfeeder will retail for $199 and the rear
sheetfeeder for $119. The ink cartridges will be sold in six-packs for
$149. Intelli-Plot InkJet plotters will be sold by authorized AMT dealers,
VARs, and system integrators. For more information, please contact AMT
