Introducing....Information Highways....

Since its inception in 1988, Database Canada has been targeted to serve
the needs of the users, creators and suppliers of electronic information
products in Canada. It was originally launched because Canada needed its
own unique medium for the exchange of news and ideas on information
issues. The need is even greater today.

Emerging and evolving technologies for creating and distributing
information, new sources of electronic information, policy issues such as
privacy, crown copyright and freedom of information, and the shifting
boundaries between traditional and nontraditional applications for
electronic information, are indications that our milieu is becoming more
complex, more diverse, and maybe more confusing.

The technology for storing, massaging and distributing electronic
information has existed for some time, but the developers of technology
are suddenly aware that while this is wonderful, what makes it useful is
the content! What good is a highway with no cars!

With this in mind, Database Canada is being transformed into INFORMATION
HIGHWAYS - the Magazine for Consumers of Strategic Electronic Information.
Beginning with the October 1993 issue Information Highways will
accommodate the new issues and topics in the information industry. Our
focus will be on the strategic USE of electronic information. We have
stretched the "content" to promote wider interest for all consumers of
electronic information, including MIS professionals, Information
Specialists, Information Technologists and "end-users".

So what will INFORMATION HIGHWAYS look like? How will it differ from
Database Canada? Each issue will profile a specific application for
electronic information. In our premiere issue, we look at "Media
Monitoring - Exploring Alternatives to Clipping". What are the options?
The delivery platforms? The issues? Read about some very real
applications. As well we will have regular columns representing different
perspectives - the Information Specialist, the Information Technologist,
Government Update - and more. Visionaries will have their turn at
predicting the future applications, and we will profile well-known
Canadians as consumers of electronic information.

INFORMATION HIGHWAYS is available at an annual subscription rate of
$98.00CDN/US$90.00.
