GREYSTONE INTRODUCES NEW PCMCIA UNIVERSAL ADAPTER FOR PC CARDS

New Front-Loading CardDock Multi-Socket Interface For Desktop PCs Priced
Under $300; Supports PC Card Types I, II, III, and Devices Up To 15mm

Los Gatos, CA -- July 27, 1993 -- Greystone Peripherals, Inc., an emerging
player in the PCMCIA market, is introducing the new CardDock universal
adapter for PC cards. Fully compliant with PCMCIA version 2.0
specifications for memory and I/O cards and Intel ExCA specifications, the
two- or four-socket CardDock enables easy plug-and-play of any memory, ATA
and I/O cards designed to PCMCIA specifications. The CardDock is a totally
compatible solution for reading and writing data, and the exchange of data
files and peripheral I/O functions between mobile and desktop PCs using PC
Cards.

Greystone's CardDock interface conveniently mounts into a standard
5.25-inch half-height drive slot and supports +5 volt and +3 volt PC card
Types I, II and m, as well as devices up to 15mm. This flexibility ensures
compatibility with future form factors that may exceed the current 10.5mm
maximum Type III standard.

"The CardDock was designed to be the industry-standard interface for the
explosive PC Card market," said John Usher, Greystone's vice president of
sales and marketing. "By mounting the adapter in the PC's front bay, users
can insert and eject PC Cards just as easily as they would a floppy disk,
without powering down the system or risking any data loss."

Usher said that price would play an important role in achieving industry
standardization. "We have introduced CardDock at under $300, significantly
less than competitive offerings, which typically mount on the back of PCs,
do not have an eject mechanism, nor data-saving sensor." Usher said that
the software provides for Flash filing support and critical data
integrity, allowing PC Cards to be moved from system to system and slot to
slot, for true plug-and-play.

Data loss and risk of PC Card damage due to accidental card removal or
power failure is minimized by the CardDock's proprietary built-in sensor
which automatically notifies the host PC to suspend current operation
before a hard drive or memory card is ejected using the company's
proprietary pushbutton mechanism. Another proprietary feature is a
convenient front panel jack for telephone and other communications
connections required by PC Modem cards.

The CardDock software manages system resources with easy-to-use pop-up
menus, and includes DOS- and Windows-compatible PCMCIA Card Services and
Socket Services software for configuring the system and each PC Card,
managing I/O ports, interrupt levels and memory blocks. The software also
allows hot insertion/removal, an important feature for preserving data
integrity and preventing data loss. PC Cards can thus be moved from system
to system, one slot to another, without identification conflicts, much as
a floppy diskette.

CardDock applications include not only personal desktop computers, but
across the full range of products now taking advantage of PCMCIA card
technology. This includes printers, musical instruments such as electronic
keyboards, copying machines and industrial controllers.

Each turnkey CardDock includes two- or four-slot docking bay hardware, a PC
interface card which installs into any 16-bit AT-bus slot, cables and
software. Occupying a half-size slot in the front of any PC, the unit is
designed to mount all PCMCIA cards almost flush with the PC's front bezel.
This eliminates any card damage or bent internal connector leads due to
improper insertion or removal. The CardDock unit is easy to install and
use, featuring LED read/write activity indicators.

Greystone's Model GS-220 (two slots) CardDock is available immediately at a
suggested list price of $299.00. A four-slot unit, model GS-440, is also
available. Both models have quantity discounts available. The CardDock is
warranted for one year. CardDock units are marketed to dealers,
distributors, VARs/VADs, OEMs and via telemarketing to the U.S. and
overseas.

Greystone Peripherals, Inc., was founded in 1992 and is led by industry
veterans George Robinson and John Usher. The company designs, manufactures
and markets computer peripherals. In addition to the PCMCIA market, its
Data Blaster hard disk drive software duplication system is targeted to
the software manufacturing market.
