CoSA Acquired by Aldus Corporation
CoSA to Become Wholly-Owned Subsidiary

(July 26, 1993, Providence, RI) - CoSA (The Company of Science & Art) today
announced that it has been acquired by the Aldus Corporation, a
Seattle-based software developer. Under the terms of the acquisition
agreement, CoSA will become a wholly-owned subsidiary of Aldus.

"We are extremely excited about the potential this acquisition offers us,"
said Bill O'Farrell, CoSA's president. "With the support of such a major
player as Aldus, CoSA will be delivering the highest quality graphics
tools for many years to come. We will also be expanding our customer
services and assisting Aldus in its electronic publishing plans."

Under the terms of the acquisition Aldus will acquire all outstanding
shares of CoSA stock, its product line, source code, copyrights and
trademarks. CoSA will remain at its headquarters in Providence, Rhode
Island, where it will continue its research and development, sales,
marketing and technical support activities.

"We see this as a very symbiotic relationship," commented CoSA's Chief
Technical Officer, David Herbstman. "CoSA benefits from the infrastructure
of a larger company while Aldus is able to integrate our professional
video and imaging technology into their code base. We can enhance our
customer services and R&D efforts and Aldus is better prepared to serve
the electronic publishing market."

CoSA's flagship product is CoSA After Effects, a digital compositing, 2D
animation, and special effects program for the Macintosh. It allows video
professionals to combine, layer, and composite an unlimited number of
QuickTime movies and PICT files. CoSA After Effects provides users with
the control, functionality, and output quality that they expect to find in
expensive post-production facilities. CoSA also developed and markets the
PACo family of products. PACo ("PICS Animation Compiler") is a
cross-platform, software-only solution for compressing and playing digital
videos on personal computers.

Aldus Corporation (NASDAQ:ALDC) creates computer software solutions that
help people throughout the world effectively communicate information and
ideas. The company focuses on three lines of business: applications for
the professional publishing and prepress markets; applications for the
general consumer market; and service and support programs for professional
end-users. Aldus has subsidiaries in Europe, Asia, and the Pacific Rim
serving a worldwide network of dealers and distributors.
