Boscov's Department Stores Sued For Copyright Infringement By The SPA

August 23, 1993 (Washington, DC) -- The Software Publishers Association
announced today the filing of a new copyright infringement lawsuit in
federal court in Philadelphia. The defendant named in the suit is Boscov's
Department Stores, Inc., which is alleged to have engaged in the illegal
copying of computer software at its stores and offices in Pennsylvania.
The SPA suit was brought on behalf of IBM Corporation, Fifth Generation
Systems, Ltd., Spinnaker Software, Symantec Corporation, and Traveling
Software, Inc. The complaint alleges the unauthorized copying of OS/2,
Fastback Plus, PFS Write, Q&A, PC Anywhere, and Laplink.

"The software industry, which loses over a billion dollars in the US each
year to software piracy, takes software theft very seriously," said Ilene
Rosenthal, General Counsel of the SPA. "It is our hope that Boscov's will
cooperate with us and we will be able to solve this matter to the
satisfaction of all parties involved."

Since 1988, the Software Publishers Association has initiated hundreds of
lawsuits and audits on behalf of its members and obtained numerous search
and seizure orders against businesses, computer dealers, bulletin board
services, and educational institutions that have violated its members"
copyrights. The SPA's anti-piracy hotline, 1-800-388-7478, accepts calls
reporting software violations.

The Software Publishers Association also distributes free of charge
self-audit materials designed to help businesses, government entities, and
educational institutions manage their internal software practices. To
