Blue Sky Software to Preview Visual SQL

San Diego, Borland International Conference May 16, 1993 -- Blue Sky
Software Corp. announced today that it will preview Visual SQL, a
prototyper and ANSI C source code generator for creating Windows
client/server applications.

Previous to Visual SQL, writing Windows client/server applications in C was
a tedious task requiring in-depth knowledge about both the database
Application Programming Interface (API) for the various database systems
and the Windows API. Additionally, testing the application required
compiling and linking before new code could be executed and tested. With
Visual SQL this is no longer necessary.

Blue Sky Software's Visual SQL makes it significantly easier for developers
by creating native Windows client/server applications that work with SQL
and ODBC databases. Unlike competing products which use proprietary
languages, Visual SQL, which works with industry standard C or C++
compilers, generates ANSI C source code that makes direct calls to the
Windows API and the database API. The resulting applications run far more
quickly than traditional interpretive or script based Windows
client/server applications.

With Visual SQL, as the developer visually designs an application in
Windows, database access can be built right into the application. Not only
does Visual SQL save time by generating the exact C source code for the
design, it also offers a powerful Preview Mode to test run the application
without having to go through the traditional compile and link cycle first.
This provides a very rapid development cycle and greatly enhances the
developers productivity. Now developers can present their database design
to end-users for immediate CompuServe: 75120, 737 interactive feedback.
Non-programmers can build complete working applications that include
menus, graphics, data entry windows, mouse support and on-line help. Users
without C programming experience can build client/server applications
without writing a single line of code. Experienced developers will benefit
even more from Visual SQL. They can quickly generate thousands of lines of
complex, easily modifiable C source code; code that would take
professional programmers months of work. Visual SQL provides unlimited
access to the generated C source code, so programmers can add their own
code if so desired.

"Visual SQL is a very useful tool for Borland C++ programmers working on
client/server applications," says Michael Hyman, Senior Product Manager
for Borland C++. "It demonstrates the depth and breadth of tools available
for Borland's installed base of C++ developers."

Visual SQL offers true visual programming -- the ability to visually map
data from the database into the application screens by using the mouse.
While designing the data entry screens with the powerful screen painter,
the developer can add database actions directly behind buttons and the
various controls by pointing & clicking. For developers that are
unfamiliar with the SQL syntax, Visual SQL also includes a powerful query
prototyper to visually create SQL statements. Never before has Windows
client/server application development been this fast and easy.

Visual SQL generates source code for access to ORACLE, SQL Server, Integra
SQL, dBase files and all databases supporting Microsoft ODBC. No royalties
or runtime fees apply.
