Grass Valley Technologies announces release of the:
Style Guide for Paradox 4.0

Borland International Conference - San Diego, CA - May 16, 1993 Grass
Valley Technologies, Inc. announced the Style Guide for Paradox 4.0, an
application environment for Paradox 4.0. The Style Guide provides an
application manager that directs task-switching between application
modules. The application environment includes several modules that provide
built-in capabilities, including speedbar, toolbox, calendar, clock and
calculator.

All of this is possible because the Style Guide uses a standard event
handler that knows how to deal with the application environment. The
standard event handler uses a dynarray-based rule set to provide default
behavior for Paradox 4.0 Wait sessions and dialog boxes. Behavior is
customized by modifying the rules, which is done by assigning values to a
wide range of pre-defined dynarray elements.

A new approach for PAL applications:

Think of a pulldown menu as a file cabinet. End users select items from the
pulldown menu (the "file cabinet") and place them on the desktop. Each
item is represented by a Paradox 4.0 window, which can be positioned to
set up the environment they want. Users switch from task to task by
clicking on a new window. When they finish with an item, they file it by
closing the window; when they need something new, they use the pulldown
menu to put it on the desktop. When a window is selected, its previous
state is automatically restored.

Applications are built from simple, single table or multi table forms, but
offer advanced functionality.

The Style Guide includes complete source code and a wide range of utilities
you will want to include in other applications. These utilities show how
easy it is to write modular code.

An alternative to menu-driven applications:

"Many PAL programmers are still writing applications the same way they did
in Paradox 3.5," said company president, Gary Bement. "Even the Paradox
4.0 application generator uses the old, menu-driven approach, where you
put a form on the desktop, work with it, then close it before you can do
something else. We've developed a consistent set of application guidelines
that move you to a whole new realm of functionality."

"The interface enhancements we've made in Paradox 4.0, combined with the
Style Guide's window-focused approach to design, will help Paradox
developers create a new generation of easy-to-use applications," said
Daniel Klaussen, Paradox DOS product manager for Borland International.

Pricing and availability:

A single developer license retails for $149.95, and includes rights to
distribute royalty-free compiled applications. A LAN version for use by an
unlimited number of developers on a single server sells for $395.

A special introductory price was announced at the conference: The single
developer pricing is reduced to $99.95 until July 31, 1995.

The company:

Grass Valley Technologies, Inc., founded in 1990, specializes in
development and marketing of Paradox add-ons. This conference represents
its fourth consecutive appearance at the annual Paradox conference.
