Microsoft Introduces Microsoft Scenes 

Three Colorful, New Screen Saver Collections for Windows Offering
Photographic Images as well as Custom Pictures

REDMOND, Wash.--July 26, 1993--Microsoft Corporation today announced
Microsoft g' Scenes, a new line of screen saver products starting with
three unique collections of photographic images from the worlds of nature,
art and outer space.

Microsoft Scenes Sierra Club Collection contains beautiful nature and
wilderness scenes of national parks, pristine nature regions and other
outdoor settings. Microsoft Scenes Impressionists Collection contains
masterpiece paintings from world-renowned artists such as Claude Monet and
Paul Cezanne. Microsoft Scenes Outer Space Collection contains stunning
images of the universe, including the moon, earth and Halley's comet.
Accompanying the 48 full-color photographic images in each collection is
information provided by experts in their designated fields and a variety
of special effects for transitioning between the various scenes.

In addition to the enhancing images already available in the products,
users have the opportunity to personalize their workstations by taking
advantage of an enclosed offer to convert up to three personal photographs
into Microsoft Scenes images through Genigraphics Corporation, a leading
supplier of visual communications. Bit-mapped images from the Microsoft
Windows operating system can also be added to Scenes by using Scenes
Wizards. Scenes is compatible with Berkeley Systems' After Dark 2.0 and
other screen saver programs for Windows version 3.1.

"Scenes brings a new dimension to the screen saver category by making it
easy for users to visually personalize their PCs," said Steve Shaiman,
general manager of advanced product development at Microsoft. "Now you can
customize your computer desktop with three collections of ever-changing,
high-quality photographs and paintings that you've always wanted but have
never had the room in your office to display. With Microsoft Scenes,
you'll even be able to display your entire family photo album on your
computer screen."

Information related to each image is provided by experts in natural
history, art history and astronomy and can be easily accessed by the user.
Microsoft Scenes Sierra Club Collection includes passages from the John
Muir Library published by Sierra Club Books. Microsoft Scenes
Impressionists Collection contains information by Alicia Craig Faxon,
professor of art history and chairperson of the department of art and
music at Simmons College in Boston. Microsoft Scenes Outer Space
Collection includes descriptions of each image that are written by Damond
Benningfield, writer and producer for "Star Date," the award-winning daily
radio program that covers astronomy and space exploration.

Microsoft Scenes is scheduled to be available within 60 days through
authorized distributors and resellers at a suggested retail price of
$29.95 per title. With the purchase of Microsoft Scenes Sierra Club
Collection, a portion of the proceeds goes to support the Sierra Club's
efforts in preserving and protecting the environment. An introductory rate
membership for the Sierra Club is also offered. Recycled packaging is used
on all three products.

Microsoft Scenes requires the Microsoft Windows operating system version
3.1 or higher and 2MB 386SX or higher with VGA display (256 colors
required for optimal display).
