NetNews On CD's

NetNews on CD's, the USENET News on CD-ROM's product previously published
by Sterling Software as NetNews/CD, has taken on an updated look and new
features, and is now published by CD Publishing Corporation. NetNews on
CD's provides an archiving and distribution service for USENET news and
makes the wealth of information on USENET available whenever you need it
without the requirement for excessive disk storage, tape
archival/retrieval facilities, limitations of communication link speeds,
and prohibitively high newsfeed and/or telephone charges. Each issue of
NetNews on CD's contains approximately 600 megabytes of news.

NetNews on CD's is currently being published in ISO 9660 format, and
support for the Rock Ridge extension is planned. News reading software
for UNIX and Macintosh platforms is currently included on the disc. Other
platforms which support the ISO 9660 CD format (such as DOS with MSCDEX)
are also capable of retrieving the data contained on the CD's.

There are two NetNews on CD's products. The General Series contains the
mainstream USENET newsgroups as well as the "alt" newsgroups. The
top-level newsgroup hierarchies included in this series are:

comp, misc, news, rec, sci, soc, talk, and alt

The Specialized/Regional Series contains the specialized newsgroup
hierarchies and the various regional newsgroups hierarchies. The
Specialized newsgroup hierarchies included in this series are:

bionet, bit, biz, ddn, gnu, hiv, ieee, k12, pubnet,
    sura, u3b, uunet, vmsnet

NetNews on CD's subscription rates are based on the quantity of CD's
ordered. The CD's for any Series may be ordered in single quantities or
as a multiple-issue subscription set. A set is considered to be 6, 12 or
24 consecutive issues from one of the Series. The actual term of the
subscription will depend upon the frequency of publication of the selected
Series and the selected subscription start date. Rates range from US$40
for single issues, to US$24 per CD in 24-issue sets/subscriptions.
Subscriptions can begin at any time in the past, and back issues are
available.
