NEW PC AND VME C40 OCTAL PROCESSOR SYSTEMS FROM SPECTRUM ADD DENSITY,
MFLOPS TO PARALLEL PROCESSING PRODUCT FAMILY

Burnaby, B.C., June 21, 1993 - Spectrum Signal Processing today introduced
the latest members of its C40 family of parallel processing system boards,
two new high-performance DSP boards that provide support for eight 50 MHz
TMS320C40 DSPs and up to 400 MFLOPS in a single PC or VME slot.

Spectrum's new PC and VME C40 Octal Processor Systems feature a scalable
topology that allows designers to easily add Spectrum's TIM-40 standard
single and twin processor modules and boards, and to maximize system
performance per cubic inch. The C40 communication ports are buffered, and
can be used to build large networks for high-throughput parallel
processing applications, such as advanced imaging, sonar, radar,
simulation and modeling systems.

"These new Octal Processor Systems are the latest in a family designed for
high performance parallel processing applications," said Barry Jinks,
Spectrum President and CEO. "No other PC or VME board can provide this
many megaflops of DSP processing power as well as offer a fully modular
system. The Octal Processor System is the result of our ongoing
development program to apply the latest in DSP technology to high end
system designs."

The C40 Octal Processor offers direct host access to each processor through
the JTAG interface. When combined with Spectrum's source level debugger,
this system allows users to debug code in C, assembler, or in both at the
same time. The JTAG signal lines are daisy-chained through each of the
module sites on the board.

The C40 communications port buffering provides protection logic to preempt
data transfer when I/O conflicts occur between ports, thus preventing
damage to the C40s. Also, one of the communication ports on each module is
available to the host ISA or VME bus via a specially-developed Link
Interface Adapter (LIA). This allows direct communication between the host
and any C40 module. "The Link Interface Adapter was developed to meet
multi-processing system configuration requirements," said Ross Mitchell,
Spectrum's Business Development Manager. "Data is transferred directly
through individual communication ports with all of the required control
and monitoring functions."

The C40 Octal Processor System is available with a complete set of parallel
and multiprocessor application software tools, including an
assembler/linker, ANSI C compiler, and C source-level debugger from Texas
Instruments, 3L parallel C compiler, ISI's Virtuoso, and Tartan's FloTar
and FasTar libraries. The SPOX operating system for DSP-based systems,
from Spectron Microsystems, and the Helios operating system will also be
available. Spectrum provides a high-level language interface library for
PC interfaces. "We have integrated a full suite of tools so customers can
obtain a complete system from one vendor," said Mitchell.

The C40 Octal Processor Systems are available now from Spectrum in single
quantities at U.S. $19,145 for the PC and U.S. $18,240 for the VME.
Discounts are available for OEMs who purchase in volume.

Spectrum Signal Processing is the leading developer of system and processor
boards, software tools, hardware systems and other digital signal
processing products for the PC, VME and SBus environments. These systems
support digital signal processors from all major DSP vendors. Spectrum's
unique modular DSP hardware allows users to interface off-the-shelf
peripheral I/O boards with the processor of their choice. Spectrum Signal
Processing Inc. is publicly traded on NASDAQ under the symbol SSPIF, and
on the Vancouver Stock Exchange under the symbol SSY.
