Linked Boards Can Provide 640 MFLOPS of Processing Power

SPECTRUM SIGNAL'S NEW TMS320C31 QUAD PROCESSOR BOARD COMBINES COST
EFFECTIVE C31 FLOATING POINT DSP, SPECTRUM'S MEDIA-LINK, IN
HIGH-PERFORMANCE ARRAY PROCESSOR

BURNABY, British Columbia, June 21, 1993-- Spectrum Signal Processing today
introduced the most cost-effective system available for sophisticated
PC-based array processing applications, a new Quad Processor board built
around Texas' Instruments 40MHz TMS320C31 DSP.

The new C31 Quad Processor, designed for image processing, radar, sonar,
multi channel communication, and other high performance applications,
includes Spectrum's unique MEDIA-LINK bus, which provides high-speed,
40Mbyte/second communications between processors - without bottlenecks.
Each board has 160 MFLOPS of DSP processing power, and developers can
easily construct cost-effective systems in the GigaFLOP range by linking
multiple C31 Quad Processors.

"The Quad Processor board represents the latest in our expanding MEDIA-LINK
family of high-performance, cost effective PC-based products for the
industrial market," said Spectrum President and Chief Executive Officer
Barry Jinks. ' The combination of MEDIA-LINK and the C31s provide an
unprecedented level of array processing power at a cost of less than
$40/MFLOP, ideal for volume array processing applications such as medical
imaging and machine vision."

C31, MEDIA-LINK Combine to Offer Cost-Effective Capabilities

The MEDIA-LINK interface, which Spectrum developed last year using ASIC
technology and has begun incorporating into it's products, affords
designers "processor independence" by eliminating interprocessor overhead
and guaranteeing reliable communications in applications that demand them.
Any C31 on the MEDIA-LINK network is able to directly access the resources
of any other processor on the MEDIA-LINK network.

The TMS320C31 is a streamlined, cost-reduced version of TI's TMS320C30. It
requires less power, with complete code compatibility. Bringing the C31
and MEDIA-LINK together in the C31 Quad Processor offers designers a
complete range of cost-effective options without sacrificing performance.
The data transfer rate between the processors is 40 Mbytes/second, and all
network activities are managed through a sophisticated high level
language. The Quad Processor also includes Spectrum's DSP-LINK interface
for peripheral card input/output, and 32 Kwords or 1 wait-state dual-port
static RAM to provide a high-speed interface to the ISA bus. Several SRAM
options are available. Other products that connect to the C31 Quad include
the DSP/PC Single Board Computer, MLVB, and all of the popular DSP-LINK
peripherals.

To help designers develop algorithms for their applications quickly and
efficiently, Spectrum is providing a complete set of sophisticated
software tools. These include on-board test controllers; C source-level
debuggers, assembler, linker, C compiler; drivers and library routines;
and highlevel multiprocessing development systems. No additional hardware
is required to debug the C31 Quad Processor.

The C31 Quad board is available now from Spectrum at US $4,995 each.
Significant volume discounts are available for OEMs.

Spectrum Signal Processing is the leading developer of system and processor
boards, software tools, hardware systems and other digital signal
processing products for the PC, VME and SBus environments. These systems
support digital signal processors from all major DSP vendors. Spectrum's
unique modular DSP hardware allows users to interface off-the-shelf
peripheral I/O boards with the processor of their choice. Spectrum Signal
Processing Inc. is publicly traded on NASDAQ under the symbol SSPIF, and
on the Vancouver Stock Exchange under the symbol SSY.
