mdbs Ships MDBS IV Novell Netware Loadable Module (NLM)

Lafayette, IN - July 23, 1993 - Micro Data Base Systems, Inc. (mdbs) is
shipping its MDBS IV Novell NetWare Loadable Module (NLM).

MDBS IV is a high performance client/server database engine designed for
developers of distributed or commercial applications. MDBS n offers
unmatched performance for systems ranging from single-user DOS to larger
networks. An active data dictionary supports highly complex, real-world
data models. Other features include ANSI SQL and transaction processing.

"The fastest client/server database on the market has moved to the most
powerful enterprise-wide computing environment. This combination shatters
technological barriers to downsizing, making it possible to downsize
applications which could not have been considered until now. mdbs
continues to lead the growing client/server market and the MDBS IV NLM
symbolizes our commitment to supply client/server technology for all major
downsizing computing platforms" states Kevin Castleberry, President of
Development Tools at (mdbs).

Novell NLM

Robert Shoop, Director of Database Products for Novell, comments, "We are
pleased to have Micro Data Base Systems, Inc. join the growing number of
software developers who are implementing their database servers as NetWare
Loadable Modules (NLMs). Our customers will benefit from having the high
performance solution of the MDBS IV database engine and the NetWare
platform."

Solomon Software

Solomon Software, whose Accounting Series software is considered an
industry standard, is one of a group of companies to benefit from the MDBS
IV NLM. Gary Harpst, President and Chief Executive Officer of Solomon
Software, says, "The NLM has brought significant improvements in
performance to our installed base of networked accounting sites and will
provide substantial opportunities for businesses that are downsizing to
NetWare 386 LANs for their accounting needs. Incorporating this NLM is a
significant event in the evolution of Solomon III's client/server
architecture which we pioneered in the micro-accounting software market
over six years ago."

Technical Details

The MDBS IV database server operates on the Novell file server, thus
eliminating the need for a separate database server machine. Database I/O
is done through standard I/O calls and takes advantage of Novell's
superior disk operating system and caching. The MDBS IV NLM version
features a speed improvement of up to 300% over the MDBS IV DOS version.
The database server is fully 32-bit compiled, multi-threaded, and will run
in as little as 512K RAM.
