SYBASE AND SCO TEAM TO LEVERAGE HIGH PERFORMANCE PCs IN ENTERPRISE-WIDE
COMPUTING

Joint Strategic Relationship Offers New SYBASE System 10 Enterprise
Client/Server Software Components for SCO UNIX

EMERYVILLE, CA, May 27, 1993--Sybase Inc., The Enterprise Client/Server
Company, will make its recently announced SYBASE System 10 relational
database products--SQL Server 10 Open Client, Open Server and Back-up
Server products--available for the Santa Cruz Operation (SCO) UNIX
operating system. Recognizing the key role that Intel CPU-based computers
are playing in enterprise-wide computing, Sybase and SCO have entered into
a joint strategic alliance to produce products for this growing market.
SYBASE System 10 versions of SQL Server, Open Client, Open Server, and
Back-up Server for SCO UNIX are expected to be available in Q1, 1994.

Sybase's relationship with SCO is part of Sybase's overall commitment to
support 386/486 and Pentium processor-based computers in enterprise-wide
computing. SCO UNIX has emerged as the leading strategic platform for
Intel CPU-based UNIX, with 61% of the market, according to a 1992
International Data Corporation research study.

"As PCs become more powerful, they are playing an increasingly key role in
the enterprise," said Stu Schuster, vice president of marketing at Sybase.
"Because SCO UNIX is a leading packaged UNIX, based on the Intel
architecture which scales up to support multi-processing computers, we
think our joint offering is uniquely suited to the needs of customers
implementing high performance 386/486 and Pentium processor-based
computers to support enterprise-wide operations."

Scott McGregor, SCO's vice president of products said, "The combination of
SCO's advanced 32-bit operating systems and these SYBASE System 10
components provides our open systems customers with a powerful new option
for building client/server networks on cost efficient Intel CPU-based
computers. Thanks to the close partnership between our companies, our
customers can count on total compatibility between our products, optimal
database performance, and solutions that combine the distributed database
power of SYBASE SQL Server 10 with the reliability and flexibility of the
SCO environment."

SYBASE SQL Server, Back-up Server, Open Client and Open Server

The SYBASE SQL Server 10 product, which is currently expected to begin
shipping by the end of 1993, is the next generation of Sybase's flagship
high performance, relational database server. The product is designed to
deliver scalable, high performance on cost-effective hardware, maintaining
high transaction and query throughput while supporting large numbers of
users. It comes bundled with SYBASE Back-up Server software which enhances
very large database support by providing high-speed back-up, loading, and
recovery capabilities.

The SYBASE Open Client and Open Server interfaces are open application
programming interfaces (API) that support open integration. The Open
Client and Open Server products have been available since 1989 and are
being optimized for higher network performance and standards transparency
with release 10. The benefits to customers include simplified application
development, improved portability and greater interoperability between
tools, applications, networks and servers.

SCO UNIX System V/386 Release 3.2 Version 4.2 provides the foundation for

Optimized to take advantage of the capabilities of 386/486 and
Pentium-processor computers, SCO advanced operating systems support more
than 200 Intel CPU-based computers, more than 8,000 UNIX System
applications, and more than 800 standard and specialized business
peripherals.
