Spindler Appointed Apple CEO; Sculley Remains Chairman

CUPERTINO, California -- June 18, 1993 -- John Sculley, chairman of Apple
Computer, Inc., today announced that the board of directors, on his
recommendation, has appointed Michael Spindler to the position of
president and chief executive officer. Sculley, who had previously held
the chief executive officer position, will remain as the company's
chairman, focusing on emerging new business opportunities for Apple.

"My personal interests have long been in defining the opportunities and
technologies for Apple in the convergence of computing, communications and
content," Sculley said. "There is so much to be done here, and now I will
be able to concentrate fully on these activities while Michael runs the
company. I am energized by the possibilities for Apple's continuing growth
and remain committed to Apple."

"For the past two years I have discussed with Apple's board my belief that
Michael Spindler, Apple's president, was the obvious candidate to succeed
me as CEO. I am tremendously proud of Michael's talents and
accomplishments and can't think of a better person to lead Apple into the
future."

Commenting on Sculley's new role, Michael Spindler said, "John will focus
on our outside alliance partners in our emerging businesses. We will
continue to work together on technology and product strategies, and he
will maintain offices both in California and the East Coast since many of
our new business relationships are in the East and abroad. John and I have
crafted so much of Apple's business strategy together and I'm glad that I
will be able to continue to count on John's full-time support."

A.C. "Mike" Markkula, Jr., Apple co-founder and vice chairman of the board
commented that, "John Sculley is an extraordinary leader with outstanding
vision and we are all fortunate to have had him as CEO for ten years.
While there is never a perfect time to make a change, we respect John's
wishes and are very fortunate that he has agreed to continue as chairman
and close advisor to Spindler."

Michael Spindler joined Apple in 1980 as marketing manager for European
operations. Since then, he has served as general manager, European sales
and marketing; vice president, international sales and marketing;
president, Apple Europe; and most recently president, chief operating
officer and a member of Apple's board of directors.
