PC EXPO IN NEW YORK OPENS TODAY AT JAVITS CENTER 

Over 800 Exhibitors Showcase New Technology at Premier Computer Show for
Corporate Buyers; Bill Gates Keynotes

(New York, NY, June 29) -- The premier computer industry event for
corporate buyers and trade resellers, PC EXPO in New York, opens today and
runs through Thursday, at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New
York. Hundreds of new product announcements from more than 800 exhibitors
of computer hardware, software and services, today's keynote from Bill
Gates, and heavy advance show registration, affirm the importance of the
show.

Some of the companies making major announcements at PC EXPO include: AST
Research, Borland, Egghead Software, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Lotus,
Microsoft, NEC, Quarterdeck, Toshiba and WordPerfect.

Overflow crowds are expected to hear Microsoft chairman and CEO Bill Gates
open PC EXPO, when he delivers the keynote address today, at 9 a.m., in
the Special Events Hall on Level I of the Javits Center. Mr. Gates is
expected to preview new products in his speech, "New Technology for the
Information Age."

PC EXPO will feature a plenary address, "The IBM Company: On The Comeback
Trail," on Wednesday, delivered by the company's president, Robert
Corrigan; the plenary will start at 11:15 a.m., in the Special Events
Hall.

The ShowNet system, available to attendees at PC EXPO, is a real world
demonstration of computer networking power. Designed by Lante Corp., the
state-of-the-art show network offers complete PC EXPO information on
exhibitors and seminars, plus NYC restaurant and entertainment listings.
Users of the ShowNet system can also send messages to other PC EXPO
attendees, and to the outside world.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and ConEdison are sponsoring a
program to reduce the energy consumption of PCs by up to 50 percent.
Energy-efficient personal computer technology, displaying The Energy Star
Program seal, are being exhibited on Level 1 of the show floor.

The PC EXPO show will also feature several pavilions and showcases focusing
on the most dynamic areas of the computer industry, including Windows,
Multimedia, Mobile Computing, and Windows NT. More than 40 industry
associations and user groups are also exhibiting in pavilions, - on Level
1 and the Galleria.

The PC EXPO show hours are: today and Wednesday --10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and
Thursday -- 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

PC EXPO has been selected again by the U.S. Department of Commerce as a
Foreign Buyer Program (FBP) event. The show is promoted by U.S. embassies,
worldwide, supporting delegations of foreign buyers. For the first time,
PC EXPO is welcoming an official Russian delegation from Moscow. There are
also delegations coming from Costa Rica, Columbia, Dominican Republic and
Brazil.

New technology on the show floor is complemented by the presentation of
comprehensive information during the PC EXPO Seminar Series. The program
this year is the largest ever, with seven conference tracks featuring 77
sessions, including a new Multimedia track. The other tracks include:
Management, Software, Hardware, Windows, Connectivity and Fundamentals.
The PC EXPO Tutorials -- intensive, all-day seminars -- were held Monday.
