MKS Toolkit for NT Beta Release Set to Ship in June

May 18, 1993 (Waterloo, ON) - MKS today announced the beta release of MKS
Toolkit for Windows NT. MKS Toolkit delivers powerful development
utilities for DOS, OS/2, and now Windows NT, including tools for command
editing and history, file processing and comparison, and text
manipulation and sorting. The Windows NT beta release of MKS Toolkit
includes the MKS Vi full-screen editor and MKS Make software construction
tools.

Like all MKS products, MKS Toolkit for Windows NT is derived from the same
open systems POSIX-compliant technology as OpenVMS, CTOS, and MPE/iX and
it is also compatible with UNIX to the fullest extent allowed by the
Windows NT operating system.

Multitasking True multitasking is provided from the shell. The user can
run jobs in the background with `&', and list and kill the jobs using the
kill, ps, and jobs commands, just as one would do using UNIX. This
release of MKS Toolkit will also have true multitasking pipelines,
available on the Windows NT oper- ating system.

Windows Vi The new Windows Vi in this version of MKS Toolkit will be
menu-driven and have the ability to resize windows like other Windows
applications. Dialog boxes are provided to open files, set Vi options,
and record macros. Functions of the command mode dialog box include
command history, which enables the user to recall and reissue commands.
For those users who prefer to use the keyboard, Windows Vi is still fully
keystroke compatible.

MKS Make MKS Make, included in MKS Toolkit, minimizes file mainte- nance by
allowing users to create a recipe for large or small software projects -
such as software rebuilding, installa- tion, configuration, and
documentation. With one com- mand, make, and a user-defined dependency
list, MKS Make will perform precise, repeatable updates when neces- sary.
UNIX compatibility means a reduction in maintenance costs for
multi-platform developers. Due to its compiler independence, MKS Make can
be used with the most popu- lar compilers available for PCs.

Pricing and Availability The beta release of Toolkit 4.2 will start
shipping in June, 1993, at a special introductory price of $99. Customers
who purchase the beta version will be offered a $99 upgrade path to the
general release version of MKS Toolkit after the Windows NT operating
system is shipping.
