Microsoft Announces FoxPro Migration Kit Version 2.0

New Version Supports ClipperSummer '87 and dBASE IV 2.0, Making the Move to
FoxPro Easier for Even More Customers

REDMOND, Wash.--May 18, 1993--Microsoft Corporation today announced that
the Microsoft FoxPro Migration Kit version 2.0 has been released to
manufacturing. The kit includes software and comprehensive documentation
for users of Clipper Summer '87 and dBASE IV, making the move to the
Microsoft FoxPro database version 2.5 for the Microsoft Windows and MS-DOS
operating systems even easier.

"Users of Clipper and dBASE can now quickly upgrade their existing
applications and files to FoxPro," said Roger Heinen, senior vice
president of the database and development tools division at Microsoft.
"Moving to FoxPro allows users to take full advantage of Windows and make
applications and queries significantly faster."

The FoxPro Migration Kit is part of Microsoft's upgrade program for users
of dBASE-compatible products that began nearly three months ago. The
upgrade program allows dBASE users to easily and economically move to
Microsoft FoxPro version 2.5. Since announcing the upgrade program just
three months ago, Microsoft has received nearly 10,000 orders for the kit,
which Microsoft also permits to be duplicated and distributed at no
charge. And since FoxPro 2.5 shipped in January, tens of thousands of
dBASE-compatible users have already upgraded to FoxPro version 2.5.

dBASE Users Speak Out About the FoxPro Migration Kit

"We used the Migration Kit to analyze our dBASE code currently on a VMS
platform," said Mark Barron, programmer analyst at Tyson Foods in
Springdale, Arkansas. "After only a few minutes, the conversion software
highlighted the key potential incompatibilities and suggested alternatives
for easy migration. We were impressed with the speed and ease, and
especially liked the ability to view potential problem areas by
severity."

"The FoxPro Migration Kit makes porting screens and files from dBASE fast
and simple," said Omar Rivero, programmer analyst for Siemens Industrial
Automation Group. "We found the kit's documentation extensive, and the
software thorough. We appreciate Microsoft providing dBASE customers this
kit at no charge."

New FoxPro Migration Kit Version 2.0 Supports Clipper Summer '87 and dBASE
IV 2.0

Enhancements to the Microsoft FoxPro Migration Kit version 2.0 were based
on feedback from database developers and users. "dBASE IV 2.0 and Clipper
developers have told us they have many applications that could be even
more productive in the Windows graphical environment," said Tod Nielsen,
group product manager for FoxPro at Microsoft. "Now, with the new FoxPro
Migration Tools, we can help them make the switch as well."

Version 2.0 now includes utilities and documentation for finding and fixing
any code incompatibilities between FoxPro and Clipper, converting .NTX
indexes to FoxPro-based indexes and for creating FoxPro screens from
Clipper program files. The Migration Kit officially supports Clipper
Summer '87 and Summer '87 functionality in Clipper 5.x.

The FoxPro Migration Kit version 2.0 is available at no charge from
Microsoft by calling (800) 882-2000, as is information about the upgrade
program. In addition, this kit is available now for download in electronic
form on FOXFORUM on the CompuServe Information Service.

Nationwide Seminars and Support Make the Move to FoxPro 2.5 Easier

To support dBASE-compatible users in their move to FoxPro, Microsoft began
conducting a nationwide series of no-cost seminars in February. When the
seminars end, more than 200 will have been conducted worldwide. Microsoft
expects more than 22,000 influential dBASE and dBASE-compatible users to
attend these seminars to learn how easy it is for their applications to be
upgraded to FoxPro. In addition, Microsoft has an expert support team
ready to help customers move to FoxPro.
