User Groups Raise $15,000 for Charity; Microsoft Doubles Donations

REDMOND, Wash.--April 27, 1993--User groups around the country raised
almost $15,000 for charities at the launch of the Microsoft MS-DOS 6
operating system last month.

Microsoft Corporation will match the totals, doubling the overall
contribution to nearly $30,000. The fundraising was a special part of the
MS-DOS 6 launch, the theme of which was "doubling."

The following user groups participated, with their charities of choice
noted:

Boston Computer Society--Boston Can; Capital PC User Group, Inc.
(Washington D.C.)--American Heart Association; Chicago Computer
Society--Information Technology Resource Center and CompuMentor Chicago
Program; Danbury Area Computer Society (Connecticut)--Voice for Joanie;
Houston Area League--Texas Medical Center BioCommunications Development
Fund; North Texas PC Users' Group--Dallas Computer Literacy Program;
Orange Coast IBM PC User Group and North Orange County Computer Club-- Tim
Smith Scholarship Fund (Orange Coast College, Calif.); Pasadena IBM Users'
Group-- Elliot Adopt A School; Philadelphia Computer Society--Drexel
University; Phoenix PC Users' Group--St. Mary's Food Bank; Sacramento PC
Users' Group--United Way; Pacific Northwest PC Users' Group--Seattle
Children's Hospital; St. Louis Users' Group for the PC (SLUG)--St. Louis
Science Center.

At the launch event in San Francisco, the Diablo Valley User Group, Golden
Gate Computer Society, San Francisco PC Users Group, Silicon Valley
Computer Society and Stanford Palo Alto Computer Society combined to
contribute to four charities: Programmers with Disabilities, St. Anthony's
Dining Room, San Francisco Bay Association and Senior Net.
