Turn your Macintosh or IBM compatible computer into a powerful
spectrometer

SPECTRAsoft system includes new LabVIEW-based virtual instrument software
and WPI's S1000 miniature fiber optic spectrometer.

June 7, 1993 -- Easy-to-use SPECTRAsoft software displays real-time spectra
in oscilloscope mode; acquires, displays and saves reference, dark, and
sample data; calculates, displays and saves absorbence, transmittance and
kinetic measurements. Signal averaging may be applied as data is acquired
and plotted. Multiple spectra may be plotted to the same window, with
automatic scaling as data is acquired; vertical and horizontal expansion
(zoom); spectra (and parameters) may be simultaneously plotted on the
screen and saved to data files. SPECTRAsoft also provides an array of
mathematical functions and scale conversions.

System configuration: WPI's S1000 miniature fiber optic spectrometer; data
acquisition board for Macintosh or PC; connecting cable; and SPECTRAsoft
software.

Expected availability: September 1993

Single and dual beam miniature fiber optic spectrometers

Designed for use with inexpensive single strand optical fibers, the S1000
(single beam) and SD1000 (dual beam) spectrometers are high-performance,
low-cost miniature instruments with excellent spectral resolution, high
light throughput, and low levels of stray light. Both models are contained
in small, rugged cases which hold grating, mirrors, and detector (the
S1000 is only 1.5"x5"x5.25", and the SD1000 is 2.75"x6"x6.5"). The
detector is an extremely sensitive 1024-element, blue-enhanced CCD array.
Coupled with an auto-ranging software/hardware interface, the system is
capable of high precision measurements over more than six orders of
magnitude of light power. The fiber optic design permits easy
configuration of the system to measure absorbance, reflectance, radiance,
fluorescence and other optical properties.

Both spectrometer models interface with a personal computer through a PC
plug-in data acquisition board (not included). Each unit comes with a
cable interface and software which controls the spectrometer, displays the
spectra on a computer terminal, and saves ASCII data files on the PC hard
drive.

The S1000 and SD1000 spectrometers come with user-specified holographic
gratings of 600, 1200, 2400, or 3600 lines/mm. Since the spectrometer uses
flexible, single strand optical fibers instead of an entrance slit,
virtually all of its first order spectral irradiance is available to the
linear array, resulting in an extremely efficient optical system. Peak
sensitivity of the diode array is at 550 nm, and it is responsive to light
from 200 micron.

Required for operation: IBM PC or compatible (286 or high acquisition
board; input fiber; illumination source.

Included with the spectrometer is a 25-pin connector and cable for computer
interface, 9-pin connector for external devices, and a BNC connector for
analog output. Control software lets the user set integration period,
sampling frequency, and signal averaging; display intensity, percent
transmission, and absorbance data; control external devices such as lamps
and strobes; and write ASCII data files to the computer's hard drive.
NOTE: S1000 is also sold as a bundled system with WPI's SPECTRAsoft
software.
