Multi-Tech Announces V.32bis Data/V.17 Fax PCMCIA Modem

MOUNDS VIEW, MINNESOTA--May 24, 1993--Mulff-Tech Systems, Inc., a leading
data communications technology company, announced today a
PCMCIA-compatible "credit-card sized" data/fax modem that incorporates
V.32 bis/V.42bis (57.6K bps) data and V.17 (14.4K bps) fax modem
technologies. The new MultiModemLT (Model MT1432LT) is designed for
standard Type II PCMCIA expansion slots. The new modem comes bundled with
MultiExpress data communications and MultiExpressFax software. The
MT1432LT will ship in June of this year and will cost $599 (U.S.).

According to Multi-Tech President Raghu Sharma, "The emergence of a
realistic standard for expansion slots in PCs will bring significant
advantages to the user. The PCMCIA standard finally lets a user install
any add-on capability as easily as plugging in an external device. This
will result in an ever-growing family of expansion devices for
manufacturers to produce and more productivity for the user. And, since in
today's working environment you depend on a portable or laptop computer to
extend your productivity while away from the office, it's a very good step
for the industry."

With the MT1432LT's CCITT's V.42 error correction and V.42bis data
compression, data communication speeds can approach 57.6K bps (depending
on file content and the receiving modem's capability), and the data sent
will be 100% error free. V.42 error correction incorporates both MNP
Classes 3 & 4 and LAP-M. Data compression can be V.42bis for "4-to-1"
throughput improvement, or the popular MNP Class 5 for "2-to-1"
throughput. The MT1432LT recognizes the "AT" commands for data
communications, so it will operate with most data communications software.
For UNIX users, the MultiModemLT includes Adaptive Protocol Enhancing to
augment "g" protocol batch file transfers in the UUCP environment. This
feature "spoofs" the "g" protocol into transmitting data at its maximum
speed by locally acknowledging each data block released. And, with its
Remote Configuration feature, you can receive tech support assistance
wherever you go. The MultiModemLT is equipped with a "flash PROM" so that
you can upgrade it by calling Multi-Tech's BBS and downloading new
firmware when performance enhancing features become available.

The MultiModemLT recognizes the de facto standard Class 2 commands used by
high performance fax software. With the proper software, you can send and
receive text, images, or graphics to and from any similarly equipped
computer or fax machine in the world.

Multi-Tech Systems, which reported sales of $81 million for 1992, was
founded in 1970 to manufacture data communications equipment and systems
for the global market of networking product users. The Minnesota-based
company is well-known for its MultiModem line of dial-up communications
products. Multi-Tech's family of products include a complete line of
data/fax modems, MultiMux statistical multiplexers, DSUs, 3270/3780/5250
emulation systems, X.25 PADS/Switches, UNIX serial interfaces,
communications software, LAN/VVAN connectivity products, and most
recently, the MultiModemPCS, a voice/data/fax personal communications
system. These products are sold in over 70 countries through a worldwide
