NEW MIRRORING HARD DISK CONTROLLER PROVIDES TOTAL DATA SECURITY

San Francisco, CA, 6/14/93. The Sphere Group today announced the
availability of the new SVC Mirror Board, mirroring IDE hard disk
controller for PC/AT-compatible systems. The new controller provides
absolute program and data security for data-critical operations such as
PC-based file servers, software developers, databases,
financial data, or any situation in which total, moment-to-moment data
integrity is a critical consideration.

Interfacing two pairs of 2 IDE hard drives in mirrored drive pairs through
the ISA 16-bit bus, the SVC Mirror Board controller provides instant,
automatic backup to primary drives. All program and data files on the
logged drive are duplicated on the mirrored drive. If the primary drive
fails, the user is automatically shifted to the second drive in the pair.
Primary drives function with normal speed and compatibility while the
secondary drives automatically duplicate the primary drive to provide
total data integrity at all times.

The SVC Mirror Board's on-board BIOS allows it to function transparently to
hardware and applications software on the system. The Mirror Board is
also transparent to all PC/AT-compatible operating systems, i.e., MS-DOS,
OS/2 2.0, UNIX, Windows NT, Windows for Workgroups and Novell. The
on-board BIOS utomatically installs the proper head and cylinder
configurations to the system. After setup, disk mirroring is automatic and
requires no operator interaction. Setup is as simple as formatting the
mirroring drive and transferring programs and data from the primary to the
secondary drive.

The Mirror Board comes equipped with an 8K x 8 SRAM cache. Optionally, the
Mirror Board may be equipped with 16K or 32K x 8 SRAM cache and a floppy
disk control for up to 4 floppy drives in mix-and-match 5.25" and 3.5"
configurations. With the floppy controller, the Mirror Board supports
2.88Mb, 1.44Mb and 720K 3.5" drives, and 1.2Mb, 720K, 360K, 5.25" drives.
Prices of the SVC Mirror Board IDE mirroring hard disk controllers begin
at $195. Sampling and OEM quantities are available through

The need for an inexpensive, automatic solution to total data integrity on
data-critical PCs and IBM-compatible PC/AT file servers led us to design
and manufacture the SVC Mirror Board. Regularly scheduled backup is not a
total answer. Continuous, uninterrupted backup is. With Mirror Board and
a mirroring drive installed, integrity of current data is maintained even
under total failure of the primary drive. Even when drives are backed up
daily, backup means taking file servers and the network down, additional
non-productive time, after hours time or work stoppages. Even daily
backups do not protect current data. For anyone who has had a hard disk
malfunction during data-critical operation, the advantage of "mirroring"
is obvious.

At Silicon Valley Computer, we think the SVC Mirror Board will provide a
needed and affordable solution to data integrity to a wide variety of
users:

* Database managers
* Programmers
* Financial institutions
* Designers/Graphic artists
* Mailing houses
* Direct marketers
* Statisticians
* Law firms
* Accountants

...anyone to whom complete, continuous data integrity is a critical
consideration
