U.S. ROBOTICS TARGETS MOBILE COMMUNICATIONS USERS WITH WORLDPORT PORTABLE
MODEM PRICE DECREASE

SKOKIE, Ill. -- May 24, 1993 -- U.S. Robotics, Inc. today announced reduced
pricing on its entire line of WorldPort external portable fax and data
modems, effective immediately. Prices were lowered by roughly 25 to 30
percent on high-speed products; medium-speed prices were reduced by as
much as 49 percent. The new pricing puts the WorldPort modems at a lower
price point than most competitive portable products; the company was able
to reduce pricing because of its move to a new, cost-reduced
architecture.

"This WorldPort pricing move, coupled with the introduction of a new,
cost-reduced architecture, is consistent with the strategy we employed in
our Courier and Sportster price reductions in November, 1992 and March,
1993, respectively," said Marshall Toplansky, U.S. Robotics vice president
of marketing.

WorldPort products shipping in the third calendar quarter will be based on
this new architecture, using U.S. Robotics' proprietary DSP-based
technology. This price reduction continues U. S. Robotics' role as a price
leader. The company reduced prices on its Sportster desktop modems by as
much as 52 percent in mid-March, driving the trend toward lower-priced
fax/data desktop modems designed for the home office/entry-level market.

"Portable communications have become vital to successful business
operations of any size," added Toplansky. "Our WorldPort price reductions
bring remote access technology within closer reach, giving traveling
professionals greater access to portable fax and data communications."

U.S. Robotics has the most complete portable product line in the industry,
with portable fax and data modems ranging from 2400 bps to 14,400 bps and
recently-announced PCMCIA fax/data modems for PCMCIA Type 2.0 slots.
WorldPort external modems provide several benefits to users: they are
cost-effective, having lower prices than most PCMCIA products; they are
flexible, for use on either desktop or laptop; and they include LEDs for
easy troubleshooting and call status.
