MOLDFLOW ANNOUNCES RELEASE OF PLASTICS SHRINKAGE ANALYSIS

(Shelton, Connecticut -- June 21, 1993) Moldflow Pty., the world's leader
in CAE technology for the plastic injection molding industry, is now
delivering MF/SHRINK plastics shrinkage analysis for the injection molding
industry. MF/SHRINK, one of a family of Moldflow products targeted at
specific industry needs, is a finite element analysis tool that meets mold
designer needs by predicting an optimum shrinkage value to meet critical
molding dimensions.

Mold designers and mold makers need to dimension molds that compensate for
thermoplastic shrinkage to ensure that the molded product matches
specified part dimensions. Traditionally, cavities have been sized from a
single shrinkage value chosen from a generic material shrinkage range. The
inaccuracies of these predictions often require final cavity sizes to be
determined through prototyping or final machining of cavities after
preliminary molding trials. Both methods can add months to production
start times. MF/SHRINK uses grade specific material shrinkage data to
determine shrinkage variations so that mold dimensioning can compensate
for these variations. MF/SHRINK allows the mold designer to control
molding conditions, gate locations and material selection to achieve
desired molding dimensions before mold building begins.

Using MF/SHRINK, critical design tolerances are met more easily giving
improved component fits and better part performance. Prototyping and tool
reworks are kept to a minimum and products get to market quicker. The
package uses a standard Moldflow 3D surface model of the molded component,
which can also be imported from a CAD system. Further, MF/SHRINK requires
few specialist skills. All commands are selected by keyboard mouse from
computer screen menus and results are graphically displayed for easy
interpretation and shared decision making. MF/SHRINK is available on a
wide range of computer systems and is integrated with a number of other
Moldflow products. MF/SHRINK analyzes the effects of the molding process
on polymer shrinkage, therefore requires MF/FLOW plastics flow analysis
results. Coupled MF/FLOW and MF/COOL mold cooling analysis results give a
dynamic simulation of the complete injection molding cycle, and can also
be analyzed by MF/SHRINK.

Moldflow has pioneered computerized analysis of plastic injection molding,
which improves product performance, reduces scrap, shortens design
leadtimes and lowers design and manufacturing costs. Products include:
MF/FLOW -- which predicts flow patterns and characteristics within the
mold; MF/COOL --- which analyzes the vital role of heat exchange and
temperature control in the mold; and MF/WARP software which analyzes the
net distortion of the actual molded part and helps determine its
mechanical properties.
