Realms of Arkania -- Blade of Destiny
A New Role Playing System Released

Ogdensburg, New York -- June 14, 1993 - Sir-tech Software, Inc. announced
today the release of Realms of Arkania -- Blade of Destiny, the first
episode in a new series of fantasy role playing games for IBM platforms.
An Amiga version is planned for release later this year.

"As publishers of the eleven year old Wizardry series, we are in a unique
position and certainly have the experience to market a sophisticated, new
series from the ground up," said Robert Sirotek, vice president of Sir

Realms of Arkania -- Blade of Destiny is based on Germany's top-selling
paper and pencil role playing series, Das Schwarze Auge. Das Schwarze
Auge, a detailed and rich role playing system, has captivated German
gamers, sold over 2 million copies and won numerous awards since its
release in 1984.

Blade of Destiny was developed by Attic Entertainment for the computer in
close cooperation with the game's original authors, Fantasy Productions in
Germany. Since its release in Germany in June 1992, Blade of Destiny has
been featured on the Top 10 PC Chart and named "Best Role Playing Game of
1992" by Amiga Joker Magazine of Germany.

So The Story Goes

The proud warriors of Arkania's Northern Reaches face a dismal future.
Hordes of marauding Orcs are assaulting homesteads, plundering settlements
and devastating fields. Rumors abound of a waiting army of Orcs, standing
ready to lay waste the towns and villages of the Humans. Can the
bloodthirsty Orcs be stopped in time? The Thorwalians are becoming
desperate. They have no hope of levying an army of their own, and their
leader sets all his hope on a longlost artifact and a party of intrepid
adventurers.

Characters With Character

The character generation has been developed with a great deal of thought
and attention so the player can create characters in the lavish style they
deserve. Players can choose from a variety of Archetypes: Warrior, Rogue,
Jester, Thonvalian, Hunter, Dwarf, Magician, Witch, Druid, Green Elf,
Silvan Elf and Ice Elf. The Advanced and Novice Mode options allow the
player to choose to customize their characters in automatic or
comprehensive modes.

Character attributes are wide in variety including courage, wisdom,
intuition, charisma, dexterity, agility, strength, as well as negative
attributes which include greed, superstition, fears and phobias. The
"dark" sides to the player's characters will often affect their success or
performance in a number of situations.

A Fighting Chance

Combat is displayed in fully animated, isometric 3D using a grid-type
environment. Encounters invite the player to strategically consider their
options as each character offers their own strengths in combat. Landmarks
and terrain features are displayed true to the character's location so
players must take into account obstacles when moving characters. Players
may also choose "computer fight" to allow the computer to "select" the
character's actions. Combat is implemented using rounds, otherwise known
as phased time. The strategic nature of the combat routines make the
player's thinking approach the critical factor, not the speed of
selection.

Skill System

Realms of Arkania -- Blade of Destiny uses a detailed skill system to
determine a character's success in a variety of fields. Skill classes,
like combat, nature, intuition, craftsmanship, lore, body and social, each
with their own specific skills offer a thorough picture of a character's
profile and personality. Players need not keep track of these varied
skills, since Blade of Destiny offers a Novice mode where the computer
manages the individual skills or, Advanced mode whereby the player has
full access to the character information.

Magic System

Over 80 different spells, rituals and prayers are offered to magic users
and priests. A character is not confined to a special spellbook but may
learn a variety of spells which makes specialization imperative.

Blade of Destiny brings together the best of all worlds with stunning VGA
256-color graphics, 2 levels of difficulty, 12 different Archetypes, over
50 towns and villages and an impressive atmospheric soundtrack.

Realms of Arkania -- Blade of Destiny is available for MS-DOS and 100%
compatible computers and carries a suggested retail price of $59.95 (US).

Realms of Arkania -- Blade of Destiny will be available through Egghead,
Electronics Boutique, Babbage's. CompUSA, Waldensoftware, Software City,
Software Etc. and other independent stores in North America.
